External hard drive doesn't read on my computer.

Just got a new computer and it's not reading the files and folders on my external hard drive drive. It does recognize the device, but not its contents, nor those it give it a drive letter under "My Computer".

1. My laptop does read the drive with no problem, so the drive is fine.

2. My desktop does recognize other external hard drives, but not this particular one.

Spend quite a bit of time trying to fix this, but to no prevail. Anybody else ever come across this and was able to fix this?
