Great stuff there. Not everyone on this board will agree...as you have noticed by now, there are some who for whatever reason, don't like roof-raising R&B. Be that as it may, the songs on this album which I bought back in the day are classics.

The link posted above by doomsdaymachine goes to a radio spot for the album. Here is the very cool TV version I remember. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3b0rgmOMdys&feature=relmfu. That guy had to be a well-known DJ in some big city. A more detailed track listing crawls at the bottom of the video. Strange thing is...I can't seem to find a listing for that album; even on the K-Tel classics site www.ktel.com/search_results.php?q=2&search=music. There were later editions of Super Bad and that's all I can find. At the time, $3.99 was a darn-good price for such a package. But there were many songs shortened and the pressing of the record was of lesser quality! I think K-Tel's rival Ronco was also in the game with similar soul-themed albums.

Don't forget the at least 2 Soul Train albums.....Soul Train hits that made it happen and Soul Train super tracks, both of which I bought. Think that was a third company that put those out.

I had the Hits That made It Happen one on 8 track. Was very upset when it wore out.
K tel and Ronco shortened things WAY too often. I realize they wanted to fit alot onto 2 sides of an album, but 14-16 songs was a bit much to hope for.

Another thing I remember about that commercial; there was a kid I knew in school named Joe Simon and other kids used to say his name like the DJ says in the ad. "Joooooee Simon!"
Is it just by chance that the "Shaft" riff leads off leads off both the radio and TV versions? That has to be the soul music equivalent of Beethoven's Fifth!

Are they still chopped up?
I remember having one compilation and the song Turn, Turn Turn by The Byrds was cut to 1:15. AWFUL!

Featuring that thumping disco classic, "Lady" by Styx! Or the disco sounds of Kiss performing "Rock And Roll All Nite". "Disco Baby" should say "Disco Queen" by Hot Chocolate.

I bought the Super Bad album back then just so I could get 'Theme From Shaft" - Issac Hayes. Still have the album.
