I recently purchased the 13th edition of Joel Whitburn's "Top Pop Singles 1955-2010"-It has some interesting features such as records that were hits in certain parts of the country as well as a list of one hit wonders of the rock era-The book is a bit pricey but a definite must have for every music lover.

I do love the Joel Whitburn books, though I do have a couple of gripes with the recent editions of Top Pop Singles.
1. No more listing of the Airplay/Sales chart info. For post-Soundscan charts, it was fun to see stuff like hip-hop singles hitting the top ten in sales and peak really low on the airplay chart. 2. Grouping reissues and other songs (such as Johnny Cash's Sun recordings) together. Personally, I like to see all the singles listed chronologically.

I do like the larger size (8-1/2 by 11). The book easily lays flat on a table. Looking forward to the updated Pop Annual 1955-2011 coming next February 2012.
While the books are pricey, I appreciate the higher quality. When I first found Record Research, I would buy the softcover editions of the books. That turned out to be a mistake. I would use the books so much that the book spine couldn't take it and the pages would become loose and fall out.
So now I always buy the hardcover editions and find that those books last longer.

Regarding the new edition of "Pop Annual" that's scheduled for release in early 2012:It's going to feature for the first time all the songs that bubbled under the Hot 100-I also noticed that the overall size of the book is similar to the "Hot 100" chart volumes that are also available from Record Research.

Now that Record Research has released all of the HOT 100 charts on DVD, I wish I could get them to release the Album charts and Soul charts on DVD.

I emailed them about the DVDs and I think they said the only charts they may put out on DVD in the future were the 50s pop charts.

If you want any info from the 50s pop charts, let me know, I have the book. Don't really need info, I'd just like the charts for completion sake. I only bought the 2000s DVD for that reason. By and large, once you see the Hot 100 no longer reflecting the popularity of what was on the radio stations in the early 90s I deem them irrelevant to my chart view.

What you're suggesting would need to take into account the technology of the individual type devices it can be loaded on.
