The other reason WRVF may have chosen to not air the show is the predominantly non-80s music included in it. Just a thought.

Next weekend's (7/21-22/07) edition of "AT40: The 80s" will feature a rebroadcast of the show from July 13, 1985.

WRVF did not air the correct AT40 the 80s on 7/14. Instead of the 7/12/80 show, WRVF aired the show scheduled for 6/23-24/07 which featured the show from 6/23/84. On the optional segments, they cut off Ed McMann's voice over, with the WRVF morning drive DJs.

Assuming Scott's unavailable this week, I'll add some good news.
And hold on, Mark........for 80s terrestrial stations this weekend (August 11 & 12, 2007), look for the program from August 6, 1988. That's what the promos say!

Listening to the 8/6/88 on the 8/12/07 weekend was a treat for me! Back in 1988 WHYT in Detroit was the American Top 40 station which aired on Sunday mornings. However, since WHYT was an ABC/Captial Cities station, they were not pleased Casey Kasem left ABC/Capital Cities to Westwood One. Since WHYT knew this was Casey's last AT40, they refused to air the 8/6/88 show. They only placed regular CHR music and nothing else. When, I called the DJ, he just said Casey has now left ABC, and Shadoe Stevens will start next weeekend. Thus, I never heard Casey last AT40 with ABC. Thus, the first time I finally heard the 8/6/88 show was on the weekend of 7/28/01 during the AT40 Flashback series. However, since AT40 was only a 3 hour show, I never heard the first show with songs #40 to #31. Finally, on 8/13/07 I fianlly heard the complete 8/6/88 show. It only took 19 years, but finally I heard the whole show! I chuckled on Casey's comment at the start of the 8/6/88 show. He thanked Daryl Hall and John Oates for filling in for him last week. Casey's says "I'm sure they had a good time." Of course, from Rob Durkee's book, "American Top 40 The Countdown of the Century," Hall and Oates did not enjoy their guest hosting stint at AT40.

By the way, on the 8/6/88 show (aired on 8/12/07) the #13 song was PARENTS JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND by D.J. Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince.
Since this was a rap song, I wonder if any radio stations pulled that song off? Or did Premiere Radio make #13 the optional segment, allowing stations to skip that song?
WRVF in Toledo did air the correct AT40 the 80s on 8/11 with the 8/6/88 show. WRVF is still an A/C station that promotes itself 'family friendly.' I wonder how WRVF handled that song? I missed the WRVF airing since I was at a wedding reception from #36 onward.

I am pretty sure "rap" from 1988 is acceptable for 80's/AC/HAC radio stations. If not, I doubt they cared enough to look at the programming cue sheet and do anything about it.

I'm guessing 1987 for next week's show, since it's been longest since they've done that year.
They seem to be treating 1988 like AT40 Flashback did in 2001 and pretty much ignoring that year. Thay show didn't air any 1988 shows until May, 2001, but I've heard it said that they were originally considering excluding 1988, since Casey wasn't on for the whole year, but then later on, thought better of it. To make up for that, they 1988'ed us to death in 2002! (of course, two of those shows were replacements where "early year" shows were originally slated).
I'm really liking this show, since they include every year during the 1980s that Casey was on (even 1980 and 1981) and they aren't afraid to play the first hour!

African Spring Finch -- you're right.
It appears that Scott's unavailable this week..........in his absence........for 80s terrestrial stations this weekend (August 18 & 19, 2007), look for the program from August 22, 1987.
