2 hits in the countdown for Diana Ross and a mistake involving 'second' before each one. Casey says the second of 3 remakes is "Why Do Fools fall in love". But what was the first one? "Our lips are Sealed" is not a remake and neither is the "Beach Boys Medley". While the Stars on 45 medley earlier could be considered a remake, this is a medley of songs by the original artist in their original form. Then he says that "Endless Love" is at #2 for a second week. It's the second week in a row but it's 3 weeks total since it was at #2 for a week before it hit #1. Gives it 12 weeks in the top 2, one more week than "Bette Davis Eyes", maybe leading to his comment in the next show that Endless could be the #1 hit of the year. Not to be as Bette actually had one more week in the top 10. If you weren't cognizant of the chart, you might have thought that last LDD was going to be "Endless Love". That letter mentioned both Endless and "Upside Down"!. But this is one of 6 occasions during the 10 years with LDDs during tthis first run of AT40 hosted by Casey that an artist had both a #1 LDD and a hit that had already hit #1 in the same show. Also happened for Barbra Streisand and the Bee Gees in 1979, REO in 1985 and Whitney Houston in 1987 and 88. But this is by far the biggest pair of such hits. Those other 5 pairs had either a combined 3,4 or 5 weeks at #1. This pair for Diana spent 13 weeks on top. Was "Our Lips are Sealed" originally done by the Fun Boy Three before the Go-Go's version came out? I don´t think so, because the version by Fun Boy Three was released in May 1983. BTW: Among the numerous covers there is also a version by Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs released in 2013.

1983 few notes, I never bothered to listen all, because I've already listened before.. but I only listened KZOY for some LDD as well because pulsemusic proboards wasn't posted in full when that aired in 2014.
first LDD was about a 20 year old girl in Rode Island to her grandfather who sadly passed away just exactly when Michael Jackson were released. There's a good collection of Jackson 5 there.
second LDD is about a man named Jim in Glasgow, Canada, he's shy to meet special lady, so dedicates to other shy guys, that song is about to making it step by step
Spandau Ballet - True played extended, with extended sax solo.
#1 album Synchronicity II by The Police #1 soul Lionel Richie - All Night Long (All Night) #1 country Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton - Islands in the Stream

Is KRKE playing the correct extras? I thought 'Young Turks' was the first hour OE? Or Did they change up the order?
ETA: Nevermind. They're playing the wrong extras. FFS. Unreliable.

Casey counted those down leading into #1 because three of the top 4 were movie themes. The oldest woman to be a top 40 newcomer was "Moms" Mabley, who was in her 70s when she made the top 40 in July 1969 with a rendition of "Abraham, Martin, and John".

Doesn't Casey know the 1981 Tarzan movie starring Bo Derek is "Tarzan: The Ape Man"?

Is KRKE playing the correct extras? I thought 'Young Turks' was the first hour OE? Or Did they change up the order? ETA: Nevermind. They're playing the wrong extras. FFS. Unreliable. Before I take offense at the last word of your last sentence, I am going to explain my reasoning. (I knew this would come up sooner or later.)
First, there is nothing in the affiliation agreement that says I have to run the extras for the "B" show when I carry it, or that I have to run all of the extras, or in the same hours Premiere slots them in. (I think you all know that the "extra" songs can be dropped by an affiliate as they see fit or as commercial load dictates.)
Second, KRKE is totally 80's focused, and that often causes music scheduling conflicts, because I am obviously going to avoid playing the same songs from the countdown within a reasonable window of time before and after. I am also going to avoid playing any songs by the same artists that were in the beginning or end of the countdown right before or after the show.
Because of the logistics involved in my being a remote program director, I tend to schedule the music for KRKE before Premiere issues the cue sheets. Thankfully, I can use the original cue sheets from Shannon Lynn's site to avoid conflicts within the show itself ... because that does not change. But I do not generally know for certain what the extras will be until the week before the show. (And you all know as well as I that there is never a guarantee that Premiere will keep all the extras from the last time a particular program aired.)
To be honest, I prefer weeks when Premiere schedules songs that don't get a lot of airplay otherwise. I find those to be a more interesting addition than just a bunch of songs which I play -- and you listeners hear -- all the time anyway.
This week was a disaster for me, even with two sets of extras available. Every one of the "B" show extras were songs in my power rotations. I went with the first hour's planned extra anyway, because of the unique editing together of both the English and German versions of "Major Tom". I then used two of the "A" show extras that are in lighter rotation (not having much to choose from). And while I usually will choose a song that is in my huge library of "Forgotten 45s", the Buckingham song happens to be presently in active rotation for that feature, so I had to pass.
I would go deeper into explaining my decision-making process, but I was advised by the station owner on Friday that he is on the verge of selling the hour in front of the morning AT40 run to local businesses as infomercials and if he does that, the existing 7:00-8:00am commercial load will have to be accommodated within AT40 so I won't be able to run any extras anyway.
I will now officially take offense at being called "unreliable".
