Regarding "I Want Your Sex",there were several weeks where Casey didn't mention the title-However,he did mention it on this week's presentation from 6/20/87. He even mentioned that the title and lyrics were controversial, so it doesn't seem like the controversy started later and then he stopped mentioning the title in later shows.

6/20/1987 even has the debut at #36 of the infamous "I Want Your Sex" by George Michael. My, how things have changed. Today that song wouldn't cause even a ripple.... It did in my house. When I bought the “Faith” album and I put on “I Want Your Sex” my parents were horrified and I was not allowed to listen to that song. If anything I remember the video being so controversial that George Michael had to re-edit his video to say something like “Explore monogomy”. I remember they wouldn’t show the video until after 10:00 PM but you’re not right, compared to Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion or Miley Cyrus this video is pretty tame by today’s standards. That chuckle from Casey when he read the letter from “Buffalo Bill” was so cute. He seemed to get a big kick out of that letter. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him laugh like that. Poor “Buffalo Bill” though. Both his football and Hockey teams suck. Oh well Bill, there’s always next year as they say.

"I Want Your Sex" by George Michael was also featured at the 385 North strip club in Beverly Hills Cop II starring Eddie Murphy in 1987 and its soundtrack album, Casey Kasem even says so during its chart run!

And from a year that was played by itself just five weeks earlier. Granted, in terms of what radio stations play and the songs and artists people remember best, you really can't go wrong with 1983, but this is the third standalone from that year since they last did 1982, and their second since they last featured 1984, 1986, or 1988.

The video got heavy airplay on MuchMusic during the summer of 1987, and even in the daytime hours. Plus, OZ FM in Newfoundland had no problem playing the song during the daytime hours - unlike in many U.S. states. Also, my mother seemed to have no problem with me listening to that song, despite that I was 14 at the time. Otherwise she would have complained ages ago. Was the letter from "Buffalo Bill" a long-distance dedication in which "The Future's So Bright (I Gotta Wear Shades)" by Timbuk 3 was requested? I remember that very moment in the first hour of the June 20, 1987 show. That 1987 show also had the "Great Radio Stations" shoutouts in Hour 3 midway through a segment, unlike most times when it occurs just after a commercial break. This episode was one of my most favorite shows from 1987.

I think Chex cereals missed a golden advertising opportunity to turn the song into a jungle, with people declaring "I want your Chex!" "Chex are natural, Chex are good. Not everybody eats them, but everybody should."

Looking for an AT40 program for the July 4th holiday? The timing may be right for Casey Kasem’s last special for ABC Watermark from July ’88, “The Triathlon of Rock & Roll.” This special connects the Summer Olympics competitions of 1988 and 2024 with an underlying theme of music’s “endurance champions” from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Some stations may play special shows on the 4th, and others may save them for the weekend. With the main show being 1983, there’s no official B so stations can air something else in whatever time slots they choose, whether it’s the Triathlon or maybe something from Casey’s later AT40 era (late 1990s/early 2000s). WPNC will have a 48 hour marathon starting 6 AM July 4. I don’t know what will be included, but really they could play any Casey AT40 from 1970 to 2004, and that also can include specials or guest hosted shows authorized but not officially scheduled by Premiere.

Obviously, they didn't want to pay the royalties because they're only off by one word as it's Arby's, We Have the Meats.
