Weekend of 4/1... 4/5/86 www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/1986-0405.pdfLast played 2018 w/extras: "I Wanna Be A Cowboy" - Boys Don't Cry "Where Are You Now?" - Synch "All I Need Is A Miracle" - Mike & The Mechanics "Holding Back The Years" - Simply Red Since 3/29/1986 is not going to be the "B" show this weekend, my guess is 3/28/1987 (last aired in 2015).

It really wouldn't be unprecedented for Premiere to have consecutive weeks amid an A/B show mix.... just last Summer, on the 70's side, 8/27/1977 was a B show (to the A offering of 8/28/1971), followed the next week by 9/2/1977 as the sole offering. Having said that, I wouldn't mind either 1986 OR 1987 next week.

3/29/86 would have made sense as a B to the 1981 A. 4/5/86 will be played by itself four weeks after another 1986 show, which seems a bit soon, but not abnormally so. At least with 1982 this past weekend every 80s year has been featured at least once in 2023. 1983 now has the longest A drought.

Weekend of 3/30... 4/5/86 www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/1986-0405.pdfLast played 2018 w/extras: "I Wanna Be A Dallas Cowboy" - Boys Don't Cry "Where Are You Now?" - Synch "All I Need Is A Miracle" - Mike & The Mechanics "Holding Back The Years" - Simply Red I would not be surprised if Journey's "Be Good To Yourself" replaces "Where Are You Now" in the same manner that optional extras have been substituted by Premiere over the last few years.

3/28/1981 was last played by Premiere as a then standalone A show 11 years ago, way back in 2012, but this time it will have something as its B!

Did many stations end up playing 1985 this past weekend? Even a station normally goes with the later year, KOSF, went with 1982.

This week's optional extras:
March 28, 1981:
Hour #1: "Dancing With Myself" - Billy Idol (NR) Hour #2: "You Better You Bet" - The Who (#48) Hour #3: "Watching The Wheels" - John Lennon (#77; debuted) Hour #4: "Bette Davis Eyes" - Kim Carnes (#80; debuted)
"Dancing With Myself", which never actually made the Hot 100 but is a popular recurrent, replaces Climax Blues Band's "I Love You". The Billy Idol track was used when Premiere played this show in 2012 and 2015.
March 28, 1987:
Hour #1: "With Or Without You" - U2 (#44) Hour #2: "Big Love" - Fleetwood Mac (#52; highest debut) Hour #3: "You Keep Me Hangin' On" - Kim Wilde (#96; debuted) Hour #4: "Always" - Atlantic Starr (#79; debuted)
Same as in 2015, when Premiere aired the same two shows in reverse order (1987 A, 1981 B). The two 70s shows being played this week have also been played before in reverse of their current A/B order, in 2019.

Interesting to note that three of the optional extras from 3/28/87 were headed for # 1.

The B show is 3/28/1987, source Facebook. Fingers crossed that KZOY doesn't air 1981 on Saturday. I alerted John at KZOY to try to run the 1987 show on Saturday and he thinks the problem is fixed and 1987 will run. Hopefully it is a permanent fix.

I enjoyed this past week’s 1982 show, which I listened to last night. I enjoyed those obscure songs at the beginning of the countdown: songs by Stevie Woods, Le Roux (sp), Greg Guidry, Paul Davis, Tommy Tyrone, Smokey Robinson, and more. It was the last year before the sly, macho, youth- driven MTV effect would usher in a sea change in pop radio, which would soon be calling itself contemporary hit radio. It was ironic that Casey told the story about how Neil Diamond was feeling insecure about his status as a star. Sadly, his final top-40 hit would be almost exactly a year later. Diamond was at the midpoint of his life when the reflective “On the Way to the Sky” made the Hot 100. It is hard to believe that this superstar hasn’t made the top 40 in 40 years as of this month (I’m Alive,” March 1983).
