WWIS running extremely late today due to it being Jackson County Fair time! Last (I assume) live remote from the Fair on right now, with the top 5 songs still to go. Yep - and it's straight up 5:00 as the #5 song begins playing.

1987 Extras: "I Need Love" L.L. Cool J "Didn't We Almost Have It All" Whitney Houston "Lost In Emotion" Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" Michael Jackson "I Need Love" replaces "Wipeout" by The Fat Boys & The Beach Boys. Thank goodness; "I Need Love" is, IMHO, a MUCH better song than that pointless cover of "Wipe Out"! Funny, I don't care for either song myself.

Michael Jackson would have five # 1 songs from the "Bad" album,an accomplishment that would be matched by Katy Perry's 2010 album "Teenage Dream".

As I am listening to AT40: The 80's 8/1/1987 this Sunday morning via WXXM Rewind 92.1 FM Madison, Wisconsin (The Sunday public affairs show "Madison Forum" doesn't air before AT40: The 80's on that station Sunday morning anymore since last week, I guess), there was a question letter to Casey about the popular female solo singers of the past 1940's-1980's decade: 1940's - Dinah Shore 1950's - Patti Page 1960's - Brenda Lee 1970's - Olivia Newton-John 1980's - Madonna ...now, if we continue, who do you think are the top female solo singers of the 1990's (I am guessing it's Mariah Carey for the 1990's), 2000's, 2010's, and so far (up to 2022) in the 2020's?

I guess Janet Jackson's 5 #1's from an album/CD hitting #1 on R&R/Casey's Top 40/Rick Dees are "Miss You Much", "Escapade", "Come Back to Me", "Black Cat", and "Love Will Never Do Without You" from the Rhythm Nation album/CD. ("Come Back To Me" didn't hit #1 on Shadoe AT40).

Aside from "Come Back to Me" (which peaked at #2 for two weeks), its predecessor hit, "Alright", peaked at #4.
In terms of the feat regarding MJ's Bad album, I think it had to do with five consecutive #1 hits from that album, and only Katy Perry matched or surpassed that accomplishment.
Janet Jackson's five #1 hits from Rhythm Nation 1814 were non-consecutive ("Alright" and "Come Back to Me" interrupted that streak).

"Rhythm Nation" also interrupted the streak, missing #1 between "Miss You Much" and "Escapade". Couldn't get past that monster Phil Collins hit...

No, for him it would have just been 5 from a single album, regardless of consecutive or not. Remember, Whitney hit her 7th #1 in a row (a streak extending across two albums) only two months before MJ's 5th #1 off Bad. That, in turn, is a streak that's only been matched once - under very specific circumstances: 1) It requires disregarding R&R prior to 1995 (I.E. it's AT40 only except for the period when there was no AT40), 2) It counts only singles where the artist was the main artist. The 7 I'm thinking of would be from Katy Perry, over 2009-early 2012 - "Waking Up in Vegas", "California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", "Firework", "E.T.", "Last Friday Night", and "The One That Got Away". (Disregarded are her featured appearance on 3Oh!3's "Starstrukk" and on Timbaland's "If We Ever Meet Again", both of which stopped at #26 between "Vegas" and "California".) (Obviously, across both countdowns, Mariah's 10 in a row still stands tall, and I doubt that will change anytime soon.)
