More on AT40: The 80's 8/1/1981: 1) Casey mentioned in response from a question letter that the record for most weeks in the top 40 in the rock era was a 4 way tie: "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White", "Rock Around the Clock", "So Rare", and "How Deep Is Your Love" each spent 26 weeks in the top 40 as of 1981, in later years the record was broken by "Just Another Day" by Jon Secada (29 weeks) and then "End of the Road" by Boyz II Men (#5 weeks). I even bet Ryan Seacrest's AT40 stats have broken a record with the 52 week "Last Resort" by Papa Roach. Me too - it's just that neither of us have kept track of that lame duck since early last decade (me, sometime in 2010, when I found that the show had become painfully boring to listen to). LOL! dth1971, I have thought the same thing for over 30 years! One morning, my Mom was listening to the local radio station before the news came on, and that song was playing. I was also thinking that it sounds like the old Wendy's commercials. I even checked one of the commercials on YouTube when the song came on when I was listening to the show Friday afternoon and was surprised at how similar they sounded! I was actually going to say something to that effect on my commentary, but got sidetracked. Indeed, that was back when the commercials for that restaurant were more pleasant - they became very obnoxious in the mid-80s, with Clara Peller shouting, "WHERE'S THE BEEF?"

Prediction for next show:
8/18/84
Most likely we get a 1984 standalone this month and it's either this one or 8/25/84. Other eligible years 1980 and 1982 had their respective shows aired in the last three years.

I think 1984 can wait until Labor Day weekend 2022 in September - September 1, 1984 is a candidate even though it was last played in 2018. I think 8/23/1980 - last played in 2016 - is a candidate for the 3rd. weekend in August paired with a B show TBD.

This is the show where "Upside Down" debuts at #10.
I'm thinking 8/16/86 has to be the 'B'.

I'm thinking 8/16/86 has to be the 'B'. I wouldn't count August 9th out; it last aired in 2017 as a "B" show.

We both figured that the record had already been broken, but we had long since stopped listening to the show by the time Taio Cruz set the record (though, in my case, not TOO long, as I stopped writing down the chart just a few months before that song came along).

I stopped listening years ago but I still was at the time "Dynamite" was on the chart. I think "Levitating" came super close to breaking it but I'm not sure.

How long did "Blinding Lights" stay on?

How long did "Blinding Lights" stay on? 64 weeks, same as "Levitating". In the early 2010s, the aforementioned "Dynamite" was on for 72 weeks, and "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO for 65.

"Blinding Lights" was on the AT40 chart only four weeks longer than it was on the Billboard chart! It must have debuted several weeks later than its first appearance on Billboard or fell fast - or possibly a little of both.
