Technicality Dept.: Sergio Mendes' "Never Gonna Let You Go" was, as Casey said, not a remake of a previous Top 40 hit. But it WAS a remake, first recorded by Dionne Warwick in 1982. Incidentally, Music producer/YouTuber Rick Beato has a video breaking down this song, which he calls "the most complex pop song of all time." www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnRxTW8GxT8

On the countdown from 5/21/83,Casey read a QL (Question Letter) where the listener asked who the popular duos of the rock era were at that time-The answer was The Everly Brothers The Carpenters & Hall & Oates-Eventually,Hall & Oates overtook The Everlys as the top duo of the rock era.

Did Casey ever make a clarification in a later AT40 show about this when that Sergio Mendes "Never Gonna Let You Go" song was still on the AT40 chart?

For Memorial Day weekend there are three shows offered.
The regular show: May 30, 1987.
Optional extras:
Hour #1: "Never Say Goodbye" - Bon Jovi (NR) Hour #2: "Girls, Girls, Girls" - Motley Crue (#68; debuted) Hour #3: "Heart And Soul" - T'Pau (#48) Hour #4: "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You" - Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine (#66; highest debut)
For the second week in a row the first hour optional extra is a popular album cut/fan favourite that wasn't actually released as a single. "Never Say Goodbye" did peak at #35 in Radio & Records in June 1987.
Special: Top Newcomers of the 80s, originally aired May 28, 1988 (Memorial Day weekend that year).
Optional extras:
Hour #1: "Shadows Of The Night" - Pat Benatar Hour #2: Salute to Rap Music of the 1980's Hour #3: "For Your Eyes Only" - Sheena Easton Hour #4: "Keep On Loving You" - REO Speedwagon
And a further bonus, we have a regular M-Day weekend countdown from....May 23, 1998.
Optional extras:
Hour #1: "Closing Time" - Semisonic Hour #2: "You Mean The World To Me" - Toni Braxton (America's Top Hits) Hour #3: "Give Me One Reason" - Tracy Chapman (America's Top Hits) Hour #4: "The Boy Is Mine" - Brandy & Monica

Apparently, there was a third in the two AT20s - "One Sweet Day" - but for whatever reason, it was cut out from AT40. Either that, or there was a copy of the AT40 that surfaced and has since made the rounds that just took that one out. ( The cue sheet is available, and shows it would go in the final hour.) As to the extras, "You Mean the World to Me" and "Give Me One Reason" are the two America's Top Hits that come from the 90s that week. Of the other three, "La Isla Bonita" will be heard in the regular countdown from 1987 (#19), and "Time (Clock of the Heart)" will be heard in the Top 40 Newcomers of the 1980s special (#6) - only "Don't Come Around Here No More" will stay on the shelf completely. "Closing Time" and "The Boy is Mine", meanwhile, both debuted on that week's R&R chart, at #43 and #47 respectively. (Two out of three debuts that week, the third being "Real World" at #41.)

And another of the LDD's, Vanessa Williams' "Oh How the Years Go By" never made AT40 or CT40 at all. It was a top 10 AC hit earlier in 1998, though, and thus was heard on Casey's Countdown and AT20 (its chart run spanning the last days of the former and start of the latter.)

Indeed, in fact upon checking, it had just dropped out of AT20 two weeks earlier. There were a couple of AC hits that ended up being LDDs in this era - off the top of my head, another one is Garth Brooks's "To Make You Feel My Love" (also from 1998) on 4/8/2000. (Though for that matter, every instance of Sarah's "I Will Remember You" that was dedicated prior to the run of the live hit version would technically go in this category.)

Let's hope we find out via KOLA later today for the AT40: The 80's show for the first weekend of June 2022 that it's 6/6/1981.

In the Casey's Countdown era, I remember hearing Michael Bolton's cover of "Reach Out (I'll Be There)", another AC-only hit, as a LDD at least once.

So it should be 6/8/85 for the week of June 11. We didn't had a 1985 standalone in April or May and if this one is passed up 1985 isn't available again until the last week of June. 1982 is also available both weekends but 1982 was featured as an 'A' at the end of April.

If 6/8/1985 is possible for the second weekend of June 2022, then maybe 6/2/1984 can be the B show for 6/6/1981 the first weekend of June.

My copy of the show has no "One Sweet Day" or any LDD between #6 and #5. Casey makes a seamless transition between those songs which just means they did a good editing job if anything was edited out. With this show, how many regular AT40 shows from the second run have been offered by Premiere?

With this show, how many regular AT40 shows from the second run have been offered by Premiere? All I can think of is 5/23/98; 9/5/98 (that was Labour Day weekend, and a bonus show on the same weekend of 2021); the Top 40 of the 90s show played the first weekend of 2000; and the last one (1/3/04).
