The fact that LVK called it an "A" show implied that another regular weekly show would be the "B" show Either he already knows for sure that next week will in fact have a regular A/B pairing, or he doesn't, in which case calling it an "A" show means absolutely nothing other than he just feels like putting it that way. He gets the show dates from KOLA, so there's a 99.9999999999% chance he doesn't know.

Optional extras for November 2, 1985:
Hour #1: "Home Sweet Home" - Motley Crue (#91) Hour #2: "Party All The Time" - Eddie Murphy (#43) Hour #3: "Burning Heart" - Survivor (#64; debuted) Hour #4: "Say You Say Me" - Lionel Richie (NR; debuted on the Hot 100 at #40 the following week)
11/2/85 is the only regular show being offered this week. But....there are two specials as well.
One is the last installment of #1's of the 80s, covering August 1987 to October 1988 (when presumably Ken Martin ran out of Casey AT40 voiceclips to use.) Optional extras are the same as played in 2017, and all were #2 hits in 1988.
Hour #1: "What Have I Done To Deserve This?" - The Pet Shop Boys & Dusty Springfield Hour #2: "Endless Summer Nights" - Richard Marx Hour #3: "Devil Inside" - INXS Hour #4: "Shattered Dreams" - Johnny Hates Jazz
In addition, another special offering is the AT10 from October 30, 2004, with a Halloween theme.

So 11/2/1985 is standalone, and that means the 1981 drought still goes on.

With 11/8/1980 coming on next week, I suspect we'll be getting 11/14/1981 (last aired in 2016) the following week and that 11/13/1982 will have to wait another year (which by then would make it 13 years since its one and only airing). ETA: 11/20/1982 hasn't aired since 2010 so I would bet on that one rather than 11/13 (which would lead to 11/19/1983 also waiting another year). If we get 11/14/81 and 11/20/82, that would presumably knock out both 11/13/82 and 11/19/83. I could be wrong, but I would guess we would get at least one of those two this year.

I'm guessing both 11/13/82 and 11/19/83 air in 2021 since they were last played in 2009 and the next 1981 show will be 12/12/81.

OR: We could get something wacky like 11/13/82-11/14/81-11/19/83. Though I'd still bank on 82 and 83, with 1981 just having its drought extended to December.

OH: And apparently nobody remembers 2016 - 9/6/86 would then see 1986 not return again until 12/27, with only a 10/11 "B" inbetween...and 86, obviously, wasn't the year-end pick that year.

Yeah that would seem to be the only way 1981 could happen in November, while still getting the two coveted 1982 and '83 shows. If we were to get 11/14/81 and 11/20/82, then forget either one of those getting a play this year but I'm guessing that doesn't happen. 1983 should be set up nicely for an airing in the next few weeks -- last 'A' show was the weekend of September 4th. OH: And apparently nobody remembers 2016 - 9/6/86 would then see 1986 not return again until 12/27, with only a 10/11 "B" inbetween...and 86, obviously, wasn't the year-end pick that year. Agree -- in the earlier years of the series, you used to be able to make an educated guess as to the year-end special based on the frequency of each year throughout the yearly schedule. Now it seems like that's all kind of out the window -- not as much of a rhyme or reason for which weekly countdowns are played from the year that ends up being picked for the year-end special. Same for the other seven years that aren't aired for the year-ender.

In addition, another special offering is the AT10 from October 30, 2004, with a Halloween theme. Any idea what the optional extras are? This was two months before the show was formatted for optional extras. I heard this when it originally aired and I remember Casey playing the theme to “The Exorcist” and the theme to “The Addams Family.”

Keep in mind !
Europe sets "from summer to winter" on Sunday - at least as far as the clocks are concerned. And who is already thinking of winter ... hmmm ... here are The Eurythmics:
Finally, my guess for the annual countdown: 1980 as the "A" and 1986 as the "B".

Since AT10 re-runs are extremely rare, I would be interested in hearing the show, which I also remember hearing when it originally aired (and I do have the listing of songs, which I will not post here to preserve the element of surprise. If anyone is interested in seeing the list, send me a PM).

Any stations airing AT10 today or tomorrow? (Hopefully, tonight at 5:00 or later, since I have to work). I wish WLIT 93.9 FM Chicago carried AT40: The 80's, WLIT used to carry AT10 Saturday nights. (If you're south of Chicago there's WVLI Kankakee, Illinois airing AT40: The 70's and AT40: The 80's back to back Saturday afternoons/Saturday nights.)
