Isn't this the third time this year that a show that hasn't aired in years gets "B" show status rather than "A"? A curious decision no doubt. 1987 seems to be a year that gets shoved down the priority list lately, but 5/24/80 isn't exactly a ratings juggernaut. In fact (and I'm not at all a 1980 hater), I've always thought 5/24/80 had one of the slower first couple hours of any show in the 80's -- it's more or less full of ballads, most of which haven't gotten much (if any) airplay since they were on the charts (compare this chart with that of the same week one year prior--not sure you will find too many instances where the charts one year removed from each other have a greater contrast in music). BTW, this continues a current run of shows that were played as 'A' shows in 2015 -- including 4/28/84, 5/7/88, 5/17/86, and now 5/24/80. 1982 was also played in May 2015, only it was 5/8/82 instead of 5/1/82.

1980 is at least the year that hasn't been an A in longest, so it's not inexplicable. But that makes the third such 1980 show this year, while 1987 has only gotten one so far. (This is also the first time in a while KOLA has opted for the B; they used to often pass up 1980-81 A's, but not lately until now.)
That now shoves the next 1987 main feature until at least June. Either June 20 or 27, 1987, is ripe for replay as each has been an A only once, in 2011 and 2012. (Both were also B's in 2016-17.)

In a bit of a twist of irony, Billy Joel goes against the grain and delivers one of his most tender ballads ("Honesty") in May 1979, while landing two of his more upbeat rockers in the 40 in May 1980 ("You May Be Right" and "It's Still Rock and Roll To Me").

I forgot to make analysis or my thoughts about May 17, 1986. It was really good. I liked about Casey's story about the Kiss.
And saluting Texas story, ZZTop which is where they're from.

By my count, there were 22 foreign acts in the 5/17/86 AT40. If Sam Houston had his way, according to Casey's story, ZZ Top would have made it 23, coming from the British colony in which the Dallas Cowboys played soccer and the Houston Astros cricket.

Stations that sometimes air B shows:
KOKZ - 5/24/80 WRIP - 5/23/87 WSYN - 5/24/80
KZOY usually plays both shows.

Oh yeah, also Casey said there were 17 English acts.. Is that the most record for most foreign acts than American acts, I mean for 1986, or has it been years afterward with most foreign acts?

Maybe we'll get that show this year (with May 28, 1983 on tap for Memorial Day weekend, it is entirely possible).

Very good possibility for 7/30/1983; it's aired only twice, in 2012 and 2017. And the upcoming airing of 5/28 sets it up perfectly. Small possibility of 1983 being a "B" in between (with 1981 being the "A"), but not as likely as in prior years with a smaller selection of stand-alone years.

Is 5/24/80 the designated "A" show this weekend?

Yes, 5/24/1980 is the A show and 5/23/1987 is the B show.

^^ I agree, “Money” is a great song. Twelve years on the album chart is quite an achievement. Anyone else prefer “Vienna Calling” to the very overplayed “Rock Me Amadeus”? Even though I’ve heard that story about Craig Chaquico (the guitarist from Starship) proposing to his girlfriend underwater before, I love it. I think it’s so romantic. I enjoy "Rock Me Amadeus," but I like ":Vienna Calling" even more. I was hoping the latter would reach the top 10, but it stalled in the teens.
