I was at all the SoCal local arcades like Aladdin in Redlands Mall, Inland Center, Fiesta Village, Castle Park and Disneyland's Starcade, etc. "Well now we're up to the new hit record inspired by a melody that was played four billion times during 1981, a tune that never had the possibility of hitting the charts because it wasn't released as a record, it came from a form of entertainment that's taking over the world, the video games, Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Defender, Asteroids and more coming all the time, and their flashing video screens are accompanied by sound effects, boops 'n' beeps, and crunching 'n' crashing, and even jingles 'n' songs, and there's one particular game that features a piece of music that was played more often last year than any other song in the USA, it couldn't be found on a jukebox, or heard on the radio, or bought in a record store, but drop a quarter in the machine and out comes...according to the trade journal RePlay Magazine, that's the theme of the biggest money making video game of 1981, the average machine is played 136 times a day, that's nearly 50,000 plays a year, and with more than 90,000 of these machines gobbling up quarters all over the country, it totaled more than four billion plays in the year 1981, let's make it four billion and one...that's the jingle from the Pac-Man video game, the one where the little round Pac-Man tries to gobble up monsters in the maze before they gobble him up, well now the inevitable has happened, someone has made a commercial recording of the Pac-Man jingle, and here it is debuting at #38 this week on American Top 40, Pac-Man Fever by Buckner & Garcia..." "Four billion times?" I bet Pac-Man would later get dethroned by the Super Mario Bros. in the mid to late 1980's and then Sonic the Hedgehog in the 1990's. Maybe, but if we're counting home versions, there's ports of Pac-Man for... PC ColecoVision Atari 5200 or 8-bit Commodore 64, VIC-20 Intellivision NES, Game Boy, Advance, Wii, Virtual Console, 3DS Sega Game Gear Neo Geo Pocket Color Xbox One, 360 Playstation 3 & 4 BREW iOS Apple II Texas Instruments TI-99/4A Sequels Pac-Man Plus Super Pac-Man Pac-Mania Plug and play Jakks Pacific Namco Bandai Arcade 1Up Atari Flashback Portable NES Classic Edition Handheld Coleco My Arcade Retro Basic Fun! Arcade Classics Super Impulse Micro Arcade

Did WXXM ever go back to 1986 last night after switching over to 1982 in Hour 2?

Got 9 hours between shifts...but quickly thought I'd get a listen to snippets of this weekend's 1982 presentation, as well as the following show, 2/6. A couple of notes:
(1) In the closing of the 1/30 show, Casey slowed down a little when mentioning the chart date, as he had said "1981" in the previous two shows (though the dates themselves were correct).
(2) I had previously mentioned how Casey spoiled the outcome of Foreigner's hit right after the backsell of "Physical", which had finally vacated #1 by dropping to #4. In the 2/6 show, after playing George Benson's "Turn Your Love Around" at #5, Casey teases how Foreigner's album, "4", recently came back to #1 after 11 weeks away from its previous stint at the top. Then he states the all-time record for weeks in between #1 stints is 63 weeks. (Which was, "My Fair Lady".) Just another one of those dead giveaways, for the second week in a row, that Foreigner was not going to be #1 that week.
I can picture myself as a disappointed 6-year-old listener, just knowing that window to #1 had closed for them. It was a #1 in my mind, and thankfully, it was #1 on other charts. But back then, ridiculous as the star/superstar policy was, Billboard was king.

Did WXXM ever go back to 1986 last night after switching over to 1982 in Hour 2? WXXM was still airing 1982 in hour 4.

“We’re up to our Long Distance Dedication and it’s a disturbing one” That was an understatement Casey. That LDD from “Mary” the teenaged prostitute was just tragic. By the end I was in tears especially when Casey urged “Mary” or anyone in her situation to contact the police. What an incredibly sad story.

Yeah it was a pretty harrowing listen ,and sadly i have a feeling in 2021 there are still young women (and Men) who are going through the same struggles ,I'm just hoping that she took Casey's advice and got some help and that she is doing ok at this present time

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 2/14/87 2nd Guess - 2/16/85
A few good options for the weekend of February 13th, but in reading the proverbial tea leaves, the thought is that they wouldn't be going with 2/14/81 a week early if 2/14/87 weren't planned for the following week. 2/15/86 is another good possibility, but that show falls behind these two since a 1986 show just aired this past weekend.

Did WXXM ever go back to 1986 last night after switching over to 1982 in Hour 2? WXXM was still airing 1982 in hour 4. Lucky WXXM Rewind 92.1 played the full 4 hour 1/30/1982 show Sunday morning on 1/31/2021.

WXXM was still airing 1982 in hour 4. Lucky WXXM Rewind 92.1 played the full 4 hour 1/30/1982 show Sunday morning on 1/31/2021. In the spirit of the AT40 extra that got omitted from their 1979 show broadcast, Saturday night on WXXM was The 2021 Madison airing disaster. I hope this was a fluke because there are very few stations that air B shows these days especially on Saturdays. I don't think 94.5 KOOL out of Phoenix AZ airs AT40 anymore. KOZY's stream has very poor sound quality. If WXXM can get the bugs worked out, it will definitely be my go to station.
