Jan 30, 1982 12 foreign acts Casey talks about dream story, Air Supply Sweet Dreams Recent #1 soul Turn Your Love Around, #1 country The Sweetest Thing Biggest record 10 wks #1 3 way tie, Olivia Newton John Physical, Debby Boone You Light Up My Life, what other? Also record 10 wks #2 5 way tie, foreigner waiting for a girl like you The other song tied for 10 weeks at #1 ("in the rock era") was "Cherry Pink & Apple Blossom White" by Perez Prado in 1955. Casey's story about Foreigner's record of 10 weeks at #2 ("in the rock era") stated that there had been a 5-way tie for most weeks at #2 when all those acts had been at #2 for 6 weeks, but Foreigner blew by that tie 4 weeks ago and has been all alone in 1st place and adding to its record each week after that. I thought it very odd that in his outro to #2 Casey stated, "Will it finally make it to #1? We'll know next week." How could Casey have known that next week is when we'll "know?"

Man, Premier's edit of "Working for the Weekend" has to be one of the worst they've ever done. Totally sloppy, cutting the first chorus in half and shoving another complete chorus next to it. Yikes! I noticed that too. We heard "Everybody's working for the weekend/Everybody wants a new romance" twice in a row. Since I'm usually doing other things while listening, I often do not notice the edits, but this one really stood out.

Anyone listening to the 1982 show on WQLB (Hits FM) - are you hearing interference from another station? I'm thinking it's most likely its partner station, WKJZ

Since I'm usually doing other things while listening, I often do not notice the edits, but this one really stood out. That first hour was pathetic from an editing standpoint. Why not do all the editing for the first hour from last week's #1 and #2 songs? No need to play much of those songs since they will be heard later in the show. Had they done that, then they would not have had to go into a commercial break after playing only 3 songs and one song in the countdown itself.

Had they done that, then they would not have had to go into a commercial break after playing only 3 songs and one song in the countdown itself. Except that they still would, because that one song in the countdown itself - #40 - was the entirety of the show's original second segment. It would never matter how many songs are in the first two original segments (that are bumpered together), nor how long/short they are.

Casey had to have been referring to the chance that Foreigner still could hit #1 next week since it was at #2. But would they have been at #2 if the chart rules that took effect a little over a year later whereby the star rule was ditched and songs could drop from their peak without the week delay while a bulleted hit was unbulleted before it could drop. This subject has been discussed here previously btw. This 10th week at #2 was not bulleted suggesting that it may not really have been #2, especially when you consider that future #1 "Centerfold" which had climbed from 5-3 the prior week and then held at #3 before hitting #1, more than likely was #2 this week instead of Foreigner. Btw, Hall & Oates are fortunate to hit #1 considering that "Centerfold" overtook them the previous week. Must have been a tight tally for what was #1 this week. In any case, both hits should have outdone Foreigner this week IMO.

Listening to the show a second time (to catch the part of the show I missed when I was taking a snooze during the show), I noticed that "Waiting For A Girl Like You" was similarly edited.

For 2/14/81, I'll go with:
"Hello, Dolly" "Fade Away" "Don't Stand So Close To Me" "Being With You"

Agreed, but why did Casey say "we'll KNOW" instead of, perhaps, "we'll SEE."

Meanwhile, that #40 song was heard on every AT40 80s affiliate, that being "Don't Stop Believin'", also heard in the 1986 show during a pretty harrowing LDD from a teenage girl who was forced into prostitution and abused, but didn't give up hope. And of course many of those same affiliates play the song at other times in the week, some of them probably many other times.

Two things from the 1/25/1986 AT40: The 80's B show aired this past January 29-30, 2021 weekend:
1) There was a question letter to Casey regarding Wham! having the most first few hits at #1 in row though Casey mentioned the record goes to the Jackson Five with their first 4 top 40 hits going to #1, then Casey mentioned the heartbreaker that the Jackson Five's next 2 songs "Mama's Pearl" and "Never Can Say Goodbye" missed hitting #1 both stopping at #2. But do you know the pre-heartbreaker? According to a June 1991 Shadoe Stevens AT40 show after Mariah Carey's "I Don't Wanna Cry" spent a second week at #1 with Shadoe noting it was Mariah's 4th. #1 in a row, Shadoe mentioned that for those who thought the Jackson Five also did this, Shadoe played a piece of an early Jackson Five song from 1969 called "Big Boy" that was first released as a local 45 on the Indiana based Steeltown record label then had a deal with Atlantic/ATCO records to release the song for distibution, but the Jackson Five's "Big Boy" never made the Hot 100 and flopped nationwide! (There is a similar pre-heartbreaker that when Mariah Carey had her second #1 with "Love Takes Time" on AT40 in November 1990 Shadoe mentioned that though Tiffany before she hit #1 with her first 2 singles - "I Think Were Alone Now" and "Could've Been" - Tiffany released in late Spring/early Summer 1987 called "Danny" that was a flop and never made the Hot 100 at all!)
2) To tie in with Baltimora's "Tarzan Boy", Casey mentioned the top 5 fictional characters appearing in the most films/movies at the January 1986 time: #1: Sherlock Holmes - 176 films/movies (At the 1/1986 time there was "Young Sherlock Holmes", though later in Summer 1986 there was an animated animal version of Sherlock Holmes done by Disney called "The Great Mouse Detective") #2) Dracula - 133 films/movies #3) Frankenstien - 92 films/movies #4) Tarzan - 83 films/movies #5) Hopalong Cassidy - 66 films/movies ...of course, there were more of these in the many years post 1986 (There was 2 live action circa late 2000's Sherlock Holmes movies, and a Disney animated Tarzan movie in 1999, but is it doubtful to reboot Hopalong Cassidy for either a theatrical or streaming movie?)
