If I were in charge of Premiere, I'd allow the Shadoe shows for the rest of the decade to be broadcast, and just drop the Casey Kasem's tag from the broadcast. Just have it be 'American top 40'. And you'd probably get fired or demoted when the show's ratings for those weeks took a nose dive. Not knocking Shadoe--I like him, and I'm guessing most of us on the boards do too. But the majority of casual listeners tune in because they like listening to Casey hosting the countdowns and wouldn't have interest in hearing anyone else. Thankful certain people are not in positions to make those kind of decisions. Totally agree with your post. I enjoy Shadoe-hosted shows, primarily 1988-1990. I think Casey's Top 40 shows would be more likely to air than AT40 with Shadoe, which unfortunately there's a 5-plus month gap in there.

How does anybody live in Black River Falls? Jennifer Wojcicki just said it was 39. It's not December, it's not January, it's April 3rd! Get this- It was 27 degrees last night in Omaha,Ne with freezing drizzle. I was chipping ice from my windshield off of my car when I left work last night. Now I have two reasons to stay at home today. It supposed to be 80 degrees here on Tuesday. Weather here can turn on a dime. There is a potential to see ice, snow, rain, heat and tornadoes all in the same month. This was a good description of the weather--I had to double check to see that I wasn't on the WXDisco site! I am a weather buff as well as music buff.

Earlier this afternoon, the "AT40" channel on I-Heart Radio featured this weekend's presentation of 4/10/82.

Optional extras for April 10, 1982: "Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)" Elton John "Man On Your Mind" Little River Band "Fame" David Bowie "When It's Over" Loverboy "Fame" replaces "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell, which has been frequently used as an optional extra. Optional extras for April 14, 1984: "What About Me?" Kenny Rogers with Kim Carnes & James Ingram "Sister Christian" Night Ranger "It's My Life" Talk Talk "Self-Control" Laura Branigan "What About Me?" replaces "Runaway" by Bon Jovi, which was used as an optional extra on last month's March 24, 1984 show. Here is an interesting Billboard article: www.billboard.com/articles/business/chart-beat/9346736/kenny-rogers-the-gambler-top-selling-song-of-week

Some of you probably know better than me, but I'm at a loss as to why "Fame" was used in a 1982 show. The song was a hit in 1975 as we all know, and a remixed version was included on the Pretty Woman soundtrack in 1990. But I don't get it's connection to this show?

Casey played "Fame" as an AT40 Extra and explained it was because it was the biggest hit David Bowie ever had. I took it as "filler" for the original show . . . much like many of his AT40 Extras . . . because this one contained no additional backstory.

The boss thought a weekend of Christmas music would help spirits. We did play the regular AT40 countdowns, however. Personally, I was against the idea but was overruled by the boss. I can think of NOTHING more horrifying than pandemic Christmas music, except perhaps the movie Gremlins singing Christmas music. Time to break out "Three Minutes of Silence" instead. Agree with this -- I can hardly handle more than maybe an hour here and there of the 24/7 Xmas music format in December (I like listening to Christmas music on Christian music stations, but not the commercialized pop versions of the same holiday songs over and over and over). Listening to 24/7 Xmas music in April would depress me far more right now than it would lift my spirits.

I wondered about that too, "What does "Fame", a 1975 hit, have to do with a 1982 show?" until I checked the cue sheets and found it was an original extra. Which raises the question of why it was moved to optional status when it was in its proper place when Premiere played it in 2014. Did Premiere lengthen some songs that might have been edited then, or has the commercial load really increased in just six years?

Exactly my thoughts -- what was the need to make that level of a change to the extras for a show that was played six years ago and merely needed to be dusted off an put back out on the server? Strange...and I would be willing to bet that Premiere didn't go back in and lengthen any songs that they originally chopped, but hopefully I'm wrong about that.

I went back to my copy of 4-10-82 recorded from 2014. "Fame" comes right after Van Halen's "Pretty Woman" in hour 3. The segment lasts around 4:20. It's almost like a Casey Kasem jinx when he said "It was the biggest hit David Bowie ever had". A little over a year later, he hit #1 again with "Let's Dance". I have a better idea on editing- How about editing Charlene's "I've Never Been To Me" down to 20 seconds (which is 18 seconds too long IMO) A bit of irony when we have a show on the 70's side from 1979 with a song on the 82 show that sounds like a tampon commercial from 1979. It would fit perfectly just before Dr. Hook's song at #27. I wonder how this "ad" would hold up against "The Purple Matress"?

"I've Never Been to Me" does sound rather anachronistic for 1982, but it was recorded in 1977 (except perhaps for the spoken word bridge) and became a major hit five years later, for which you can thank or blame Scott Shannon as much as anyone. I think spring 1982 was the last possible time it could have been a big pop hit.

It would've fit perfectly about a year earlier--the early part of 1981 seemed to be flush with those types of sappy ballads.

I hope Premiere is slated (even remotely unless COVID-19 subsides soon as possible in the next month?) for AT40: The 80's to air as A shows this year 6/28/1980 and/or 11/1/1980 so that the previously delited from the show's past AT40 ARCHIVE songs of: * 6/28/1980 - "Why" by Frankie Avalon and "Running Bear" by Johnny Preston * 11/1/1980 - "The Stripper" by David Rose, "Roses are Red, My Love" by Bobby Vinton, and "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" by Neil Sedaka ...can be restored and played on the show (Maybe "Running Bear" and "The Stripper" could be OPTIONAL EXTRA status?).

I like your way of putting this @matt, but I highly disagree. I think an occasional Shadoe show would work because of the music. Nostalgia is the backbone of this series and hearing some late 80s would be attractive to certain groups no matter who the host is. Look at the ratings for the specials aired with guest hosts in the past (Dick Clark, Gary Owens). I doubt they tanked. It would be extremely sad and shortsighted to only get a Shadoe show finally maybe when he passes away.
