On 10/26/2019, Austria´s national holiday, the new Radio Austria will start. It brings a legendary radio legend back to the microphone: Rudi Klausnitzer, who started Ö3 on 10/1/1967, invented the Ö3 morning show and was also responsible for broadcasting the American Top 40 on Ö3. After Ö3 Rudi Klausnitzer was head of the private television station Sat. 1, developer of Premiere (today´s Sky) and legendary musical director in Vienna. The new Radio Austria will be heard by over 60 stations throughout Austria - from Lake Constance in Vorarlberg to Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland. The music mix differs significantly from previous radio stations: Radio Austria will play more than 50 % of the music with the best hits of the 80s, 90s and 2000s. The new slogan will be: "We play the sound of your life". And: "We love Austria, we love the hits" - as a sign for a lot of Austrian music.
And who knows ... maybe there will be a slot for "American Top 40 - The 80s" ... Well, I would like it.

These were the optional extras for 10/4/80 back in 2010: "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" Pat Benatar "Touch And Go" The Cars "More Than I Can Say" Leo Sayer "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" Daryl Hall & John Oates These were the optional extras for 10/3/87 back in 2017: "Should've Known Better" Richard Marx "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life" Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)" Aerosmith "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" Belinda Carlisle I think there is a chance that "Should've Known Better" could be replaced by "I Wanna Go Back".

There's an interesting story behind "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)"-Supposedly,Steven Tyler was hanging out in a popular LA nightspot & mistook Vince Neil of Motley Crue as a gal.

The next show is a little tougher to predict. I would guess it's between 10/9/82 and 10/15/83. But there may be arguments against either show, one being it hasn't been that long since either one last aired. 10/12/85 is another possibility but we've had quite a few 1985 shows lately (in fact July is the only month since April that 1985 has not been featured).

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 10/9/82 2nd Guess - 10/12/85
Going with 1982 as it will have the longest dry spell of any year after this week, and this show hasn't been offered as an 'A' since 2011. 1985 has to happen in the next couple weeks according to a recent post from Pete B. A few other shows could work for this week as well...

10/15/83 could work for next week, as could 10/10 or 10/17/81. Every other year was played in the last few weeks and thus probably too soon to revisit (and 1981 is borderline.) Though I could see 1986 being the B to a 1982 A.

Though I could see 1986 being the B to a 1982 A. I was really close to guessing 10/17/81, but thought it might be too soon for a year that doesn't get played with a great deal of frequency. 10/15/83 is indeed a good guess as well. I really hope that 1985 waits until the weekend of the 19th...

Here are a few interesting tidbits regarding the three "AT40 Archive" songs that were featured on the countdown from 10/4/80:"Please Mr.Postman"-The Marvelettes-The first # 1 hit on the Motown label-It was on the Tamla subsidiary-It was famously covered by The Beatles & it returned to the top of the charts in early 1975 by The Carpenters-"The Lion Sleeps Tonight"-The Tokens-One of the greatest doo wop songs ever recorded-The song itself is based on an African folk tune called "Wimoweh"-It became a top five million seller in early 1972 when it was remade by Robert John-"The Twist"-Written & first recorded by Hank Ballard in 1959,this has the distinction of being the only song to top the charts twice-Chubby Checker truly made this song a certifiable classic.

According to an even more recent post from Pete, how does next week sound? As for 1982, I'm thinking that they might go with the 10/30/1982 show, as it was last played in 2012 and thus ripe for a repeat. 10/23 is also a possibility, as it was last played in 2016 as a "B" option. 10/16 was played last year and, hence, is out, so I would imagine it won't be until at least the weekend of October 19-20 before we hear a 1982 show, but I would think October 26-27 is a better bet - that way, it could be either of the last two October 1982 shows. I'm going to venture a guess that next week's 1985 show will be the last weekly show of 2019, especially if that is going to be the year-end show, which Pete B alluded to a month or so back.

If that's true, then Premiere's 1985 airings this year have followed a weird pattern. Only one 1985 show (in February) in the first four months of the year, then one each in five of the next six months, and none after mid-October, at least until the end of the year. 1985 was last the year-end show in 2010, longer ago than any other 1980-87 year, so it makes sense that it would be this year's.

Hmmm...so it's going to be 10/12/85 next week and not 10/19/85? Oh well...I guess we wait another year for that one, but it's been a long time since 10/12/85 was played as well (2011 was the most recent airing). Agree that if next week is not 1982, then 10/30/82 is a good bet. That probably means we won't hear 11/13/82 this year--another one on my wish list that, like 10/19/85, it hasn't aired since 2009. In fact, there are five shows that were played during a six week period between mid-October and mid-November 2009 that haven't been aired since, and are high on my wish list this time of year: 10/4/86, 10/19/85, 11/13/82, 11/15/80, and 11/19/83. Maybe they knock those all out next year? Optional extras from the previous airing of 10/12/85 (October 15-16, 2011): Hour #1: "Broken Wings" - Mr. Mister (#41) Hour #2: "I Miss You" - Klymaxx (#49) Hour #3: "Perfect Way" - Scritti Politti (#50) Hour #4: "Party All The Time" - Eddie Murphy (#72) "Broken Wings" was poised to break into the top 40 the following week, and it would be the only debut for 10/19/85. One of six times that happened during the 70's and 80's combined, and the only one of those six where the lone debut song would make it to #1.
