Another favorite of mine was their "Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the '80s". 15 volumes of new wave songs from 1979-1985.
I wish they (or Shout! or some similar company) would do a '80s set similar to the '70s one. There's plenty of obscure and never-played 80s hits that could be released.

That set looks like exactly what I was interested in. It's a shame it didn't go further.

^ From what I understand, they did plan on releasing more volumes (even were to the point of choosing which songs to license), but sales of the first five were well below expectations and the series was cancelled. I agree it's a shame as there are still plenty of lower charting pop hits and one-hit wonders from the early '80s that either haven't been released or are incredibly hard or expensive to track down.

Barry Scott's "Lost 45's" show is highly recommended for those who are interested in songs that the oldies/greatest hits stations have virtually ignored.

I have all 25 of this collection, lots of great "guilty pleasures" on them. The man who wrote the liner notes was Paul Grien (not sure of spelling on his last name),Paul for many years wrote the column that Fred Bronson now does in Billboard Magazine. Same Here! Also have all 20 volumes of "Didn't It Blow Your Mind: Soul Hits of the 70's". Please nobody come rob my house since I have revealed info!!!

Love the liner notes by Paul Grein and the references to AT40, but I discovered one mistake. Casey is mentioned as saying "What a powerful lyric..." about "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast". He actually never used that line to describe that particular song, but did use it a few months later referring to another chart hit (and darned if I haven't forgotten what the actual song was!). Wasnt it WAKE UP EVERYBODY?

During the July 8, 1972 program, Casey made this observation about the Wayne Newton record: "...I'll bet there are a lot of singers today who'd like to get a hold of a piece of material like this. It's dynamite..." Regarding the other song you referenced mstgator, I believe it was "I Can See Clearly Now" by Johnny Nash.
