Back in the 1990s, Rhino released a 25-volume set of CDs called "Super Hits of the 70s: Have a Nice Day", with many big and small hits from the lesser acts of the decade (no Elton, Bee Gees, Bowie, etc.). What's of interest to this forum is Casey Kasem is listed as one of the inspirations for this series, and there are also a couple of references to AT40 programs in the liner notes for particular songs.
I used to have a couple of the CDs years ago and got rid of them, but lately I've been trying to get the whole set. If anyone's interested in them, the hardest ones to get are volumes 11, 23, 24, and 25. The rest are pretty easy to get, and there's a number of sellers online selling new ones for less than $10 each, although many of the ones I got are the Canadian versions (as far as I know, there are no song differences).

I used to have a few of these. May still... I know I have one or two on cassette as well!

I've been looking for "Have A Nice Day Volume 2" for the longest time. I can't seem to find it anywhere. I don't know if Amazon would have any copies available, but that might be worth a shot.

I probably have 95% of the songs, just not the collections. Though I do love the liner notes for Rhino releases. Most of the time, they are informative and fun to read!
I know I had the one with Stand Tall by Burton Cummings, the one with Popcorn by Hot Butter and the one with Also Sprach Zarathustra by Deodato.

It was nice at the time for many of those songs were not on CD at the time, but majority are now on CD, save for a hand full which this collection was the way to get those little gems (JUDY MAE, WHITE LIES BLUE EYES, I AINT GOT TIME ANYMORE, 45 version of SMALL BEGININGS come to mind)

I have all 25 of this collection, lots of great "guilty pleasures" on them. The man who wrote the liner notes was Paul Grien (not sure of spelling on his last name),Paul for many years wrote the column that Fred Bronson now does in Billboard Magazine.

Chartbeat is the name of the column in Billboard, just remembered.

Excellent series!
I also have all 25 volumes. Shortly after the "Have a Nice Day" series became so popular, Rhino also released a companion series "Soul Hits Of The '70s: Didn't It Blow Your Mind", from which I also own all 20 volumes. Not to drift too far from the original subject, but "Didn't It Blow Your Mind" also featured liner notes from Paul Grein.
Between the two compilations, there were a total of 540 tracks, 539 of which made the Billboard Hot 100. Oddly, the only track to miss the Hot 100 was "Fallin' Lady" by Punch, which Bubbled Under the Hot 100 at #110 on 10/2/71.

I think Amazon might be a good place to find used copies in prime condition. All I know is the series was in print for a good many years, so I don't think it would be too difficult to find the titles you are missing.

I have almost all of them also - great source of "missed" catalog songs. I feel like Rhino was from Minneapolis? The did lots of RYKO stuff? (Sugar, Bob Mould?) I will have to go dig around downstairs.

Out of curiosity, I looked on Amazon, and all 25 are available, though some, especially the rarer ones, are pretty expensive--$250 for an unused copy of Vol. 11.

I didn't buy Vol. 11 - just looked and I can tell you why...the songs were mostly terrible. Quite a few available for $33+ each.

Even the liner note doesnt even mention this song at all, almost like it wasnt meant to be in the CD, and was thrown in the last minute.

Love the liner notes by Paul Grein and the references to AT40, but I discovered one mistake. Casey is mentioned as saying "What a powerful lyric..." about "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast". He actually never used that line to describe that particular song, but did use it a few months later referring to another chart hit (and darned if I haven't forgotten what the actual song was!).

I recall hearing an AT40 show where Casey described "Oh Girl" by the Chi-Lites as "a powerful record."
