I believe adding Ryan Seacrest to the Olympics coverage will be a good fit -- under one condition. And that is if he's only involved with focusing on athletes. I believe NBC is capable of turning the Olympics coverage into a promotional circus.

If I remember right, these things happen in August right? I seem to remember them being on when we moved to Tampa in August of 08. Let me know how he does. I'll be watching MLB.

They probably want him to be there somewhere for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies where NBC wants to attract the younger demographic. Beyond that, I have no idea. The Olympics is broadcast more like an entertainment event rather than a sporting event anyway. So I guess the ability to draw an audience is more important than the ability to cover sports. Of course the way people talk here, the guy also has the ability to repel as well. But I suspect most people here are not the younger eyeballs NBC is looking for.

Ryan has denied any interest in taking over for Matt Lauer, which should be a relief. I don't see him, presently, doing well as a host of a show with harder news.
He's always seemed more attuned toward lighter stuff, like entertainment and awards shows, game/talent shows, and of course disc jockeying (which he aspired to do as a kid.) Thus while he works decently as a successor to Casey Kasem or Dick Clark, putting him in the place of Lauer or on CNN (remember the Larry King replacement rumors) doesn't fit as well.
