Thats sad. And FYI, Drift Away was remade as.... Drift Away by both men. Follow Me was a totally different song altogether. Also, its Uncle Kracker

"Drift Away" is truly a timeless classic-Dobie had an earlier hit called "The In Crowd",which was also great.

Gray actually had a 3rd top 40 hit in early 1979. It was called "You Can Do It." The record was a remake of a song originally done (and co-written) by Evie Sands (she had 3 hits make the Hot 100). I can distinctly remember hearing the song debut on the 2/10/79 countdown. I enjoyed the song; but I couldn't believe how much it sounded like "Stayin' Alive," especially the guitar part. Interestingly, "Stayin' Alive" was a long distance dedication that same week. Unfortunately the song spent only two weeks on AT40, peaking at 37; so we'll never get to hear it on terrestrial radio.

Heard that song on satellite radio however because SXM played the 2/17/79 show this year. Now that you mention the similarity to Stayin Alive, it is surprising that song did not get higher on the chart.

Maybe people noticed the "ripoff" and didn't like it?
I remember playing The In Crowd on one of my 60's countdowns. I like The Mamas & Papas version a bit better but since I am not a fan of Drift Away, it was a nice change.
