When did the first change in theme music come to AT40 with Shadoe? I know when he first took over he used the same theme Casey finished his run with, but how much longer was that theme used?

I believe around some time in March 1989. Check the cue sheets at charismusicgroup.com.

Just checked the cue sheets. A memo was sent out to affiliates on 2/11/1989.

I definitely remember have an idea as to when the theme music changed in 1989. It was the same week that "Eternal Flame" by The Bangles and "Dreamin'" by Vanessa Williams both debuted on AT40. Whatever date that was, that was the week the theme music was updated. That theme continued until June or July 1992, when the final theme update debuted and was used right to the end of the run in January 1995.
All I can tell you is, it definitely wasn't in March. It has to be sometime in February 1989.
I know the "number ##" cues (the more upbeat versions) debuted in late February (it aired on OZ-FM around March 4, 1989), so February 11, 1989 does make sense for the debut of the first Shadoe-era theme update.

^ That didn't sound like the first episode with the updated intro. The first episode with the updated intro featured the vocalist group singing "The hits from coast to coast" after Shadoe's intro, and then those same singers saying "Number 40" to introduce Eternal Flame by The Bangles that week.
It sounds like the upbeat "number ##" bumpers debuted on February 25, 1989, and this was likely the second episode with the new theme. I can safely declare that February 11, 1989 was the first episode with the first Shadoe-era intro.
