Bill Brown, who was one of the top air personalities on New York's WCBS-FM passed away last Sunday (10/9) at the age of 69-Brown began his radio career at the age of 15 in his home state of Georgia-He eventually migrated to California & worked at a few stations out there-He came to New York City in 1967 & worked at WOR-FM,which was part of the Bill Drake radio chain. In October 1969,he was hired to work at CBS-FM,which was a free form progressive rock station-In July 1972,the station flipped to all oldies. During his tenure at CBS-FM,Brown was also the station's program director,a position he held until 1981-In later years,he had a popular feature on his midday show called "Brown Bag" in which he played five songs that had a commom theme-On June 3,2005,CBS-FM abruptly switched to Jack 101.1,which was basically a jockless format. That day,the entire air staff, including Brown was dismissed-After 36 years at CBS-FM,Brown decided to retire-He lived in Lake Hopatcong,NJ with his wife Debbie whom he met at CBS-FM-Brown was the second CBS-FM personality to die within a year-Ron Lundy passed away in March 2010.

Just visited the WCBS-FM website & there's a nine minute video tribute that was assembled by Art Vuolo-There's an excerpt of a show from November 1987 & another excerpt of a show from July 1997-This'll give you an idea as to how great an air personality Bill Brown was.
