Okay, let's try & change the subject here & not start a flame war (Hint hint, Jaxxalude). I think that the 5 artists that will eventually be inducted are Guns N' Roses, Beastie Boys, Heart, Freddie King, & The Spinners. What do you guys think? My prediction: *Gn'R *Beasties *Chili Peppers *Faces *Donovan

Now, with Jaxx on ignore... I'll move away from his sandbox style and say that we'll definately see one from each menu so to speak:
GNR (Hard Rock) Heart (Women) I think they qualify more than Joan Jett hit and longevity wise. Beastie Boys (Alternative Music/Rap) Laura Nyro (Songwriter) Spinners (R&B)
We almost always the last few years see total diversity in their choices.
(Alternate picks because I know they're ridiculous in who they let in: Joan Jett will replace Heart, Donna Summer will replace Spinners, RHCP replaces GNR)

Certain acts don't get in the R&R Hall of Fame because of who is on the induction board. The Ronettes do not get inducted until after Phil Spector was dismissed. (He never felt they deserved to be in.) Also, founder Jann Wenner has barred certain artists such as the Moody Blues, the Doobie Brothers, Chicago, and many more from induction simply because he doesn't like their sound.
As far as my choices for induction of the current crop, I hoping War is inducted. Along with Heart, RHCP, Faces, Freddy King, and likely Laura Nyro. Donovan is a bit of long shot I think.
As much as I love the Spinners, I don't really see what anything in their body of work as a whole that shows they are worthy of the Hall of Fame. (at least for this year)
As much as I want Donna Summer in the Hall of Fame, I think Carly Simon or Cher deserve to get there first. Also, Summer and Chubby Checker should go in the same year. (Would love to see an onstage performance of those two together)

And there's also TV rights in this mix as well. VH1 used to hold the rights (even though it was just a taped one), Fuse nabbed the live broadcast last year. I don't know which channel will hold that honor this year; but if it's Fuse, expect a lot of the alt. acts to be inducted, as that's Fuse's biggest legacy by far.

I do agree, When I met Lou Gramm, he said that Mick Jones really screwed everything up by pissing off Jann. He apparently started an argument over something and it probably wrecked their chances of ever getting in.
Hey, I hate Kiss and I'm not a big Lynyrd Skynyrd fan, but they belong in and if it were up to me, they'd be because of their music, not because of one person's personal vendetta.

How about Krafwerk? They should be in it. They are one of the most underrated, underappreciated, and most influential acts in our lifetime!!!

So Guns N Roses gets in, no argument....Laura Nyro, no argument....... Red Hot Chili Peppers, no argument....The Faces, don't know much about them....But The Beastie Boys ahead of Donna Summer and War? You gotta be kidding me?

Oh so this is the list? My thoughts:
Laura wrote many important songs, I imagine she's not in as a performer because then even Hot Butter becomes eligible!
GNR: Definately, Appetite For Destruction is one of the greatest debut albums of all time!
Faces were great Small or Regular ;-D Stay With Me is a rock and roll classic!
RHCP? I'd say War over them, Donna is great but she'd be behind War for me...
Beastie Boys, apparently they always have to have a rap selection, but this one I am ok with because they played their own instruments and have talent. Not over relying on samples etc...
Its not bad, but since BTO, Rush, Yes & Iron Butterfly are still without induction, its a bit insulting!

I would not put BTO in the same class as Rush, Yes or Iron Butterfly. "Let it Ride" was great and then a bunch of songs that sounded the same.

Some did sound the same but only 2 or 3, but with Rock, album cuts count as well and they had many great ones, the whole Not Fragile album is good... Blue Collar is phenominal!

Bottom line is that any artist/group with less than 5 years on the charts has to be a very influential, trend setting act (see Iron Butterfly) and so BTO doesn't qualify.

Glad to see that Laura Nyro is getting inducted-She was a brilliant songwriter-Among the performers who recorded her material were The Fifth Dimension :"Stoned Soul Picnic" (1968),"Wedding Bell Blues" (1969) & "Save The Country" (1970),Blood,Sweat & Tears:"And When I Die" (1969),Three Dog Night:"Eli's Coming" (1969) & Barbra Streisand "Stoney End" (1970).

Dukedeb, I guess you're right, maybe The Guess Who would work better, they were not as influential but helped get Canadian Rock Bands off the ground.
Then again, if you're saying BTO a ROCK band vs any Rap act, BTO gets in hands down. As I said before, it is after all the ROCK and roll hall of fame.
