FYI that WOGL's HD stream IS doing the 1975 show today. How is their stream? Do they play many commercials? Would be curious to check their show out...

That's true--I listen to WODS sometimes and have to turn down the treble to get rid of the tinny sound. Maybe the dreaded radio.com player?

WOGL has a new "AAS" stream option which is very bright. It's actually clearer for the mid and high-end parts of the records, but slights the bass. I compared it with other high-quality streams and I prefer the others. Check the "AT40 Stations List" thread which is very well-maintained. And sometimes 128kb is not better than 64. What also matters is how the station processes the sound before it goes out on the air or to the internet - i.e. with good compression, limiting, audio enhancement, etc.
For me the bottom line has been hit and miss - experiment - check and record a number of stations' streams. Takes some effort to find decent streams. Right now for 70s I'll try to go terrestrial via KKLZ, and if I need 80s on the same weekend, I'll go WFMX and WQSR. If I need 80s only I'll go WRIP which is at the same time as KKLZ. WFMX plays both 80s and 70s shows back to back starting at 1AM EDT. A decent quality stream and they play all the optional extras. That's the simple solution. However on my system Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio won't save a .wav that long, so I wait for commercial, do a quick save (no edits - just save what you got) and quickly start a new file every couple of hours.

Here's the Charis cue sheet for 7/1/1978 (top acts of the 70s) www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/07-01-78.pdfLooks like a really great countdown. An almost complete overview of 70s AM pop. Fantastic! Also don't forget that towards the end of the week some stations like WHNN post the Premier cue sheet which makes editing commercials a BREEZE! For all of my 70s AT40 I use the Premier sheets. Wish I could find 'em all for the 80s.

Since I won't be predicting extras for this week, I will go ahead with the show predictions for next weekend.
Prediction for next weekend's show: July 14, 1973 (Backup prediction: July 14, 1979)

Prediction for next weekend's show: July 14, 1973 (Backup prediction: July 14, 1979) July 14, '79 would be great - KOLA 99.9 in San Bernadino played the last hour of that show around new years weekend earlier this year. They played a series of the last hour of several 70s shows during that weekend. If Premiere does play it, of course we only get hours 2, 3 and 4 - but hey, better than nothing!

From the cue sheet posted above, it looks like Papa Was A Rolling Stone will be really cut--the block lists that song and You've Got a Friend combined at 8:15. YGAF is about 4:00 in length so that means a butchered version for sure for PWARS.

Few comments on tonight's show on WBBG....it is great hearing all these filler songs instead of commercials......franky and pizzzza are right, this is a great show.....did anyone realize that Philadelphia Freedom was climbing the previous 3 weeks on its way down the chart?.....and did anyone realize that the reference to Michael McDonald subbing for an ill Tom Johnston on the Doobie Brothers concert tour was precursor to the former replacing the latter in the group?

Concerning the upcoming "Top 40 Acts of the 1970s So Far", I own a copy of the original records, so I played the section for #27 Papa Was A Rolling Stone. It didn't sound all chopped up to me. However, the opening instrumental was cut back, so Casey talks over all of it. When Casey finishes saying "Here's the 27th biggest act of this decade....The Temptations", you then hear "It was the third of September". Since the original song was 6:58, I can see it fitting in a 4 minute segment, if you remove the 1:55 opening and then fade a little early at the end.

In other words, if both streams are mp3, then a 128k should be significantly better than a 64k stream (unless the station streaming at 128k is doing a poor job with the processing, which sounds like what analog is saying). But if the 64k stream is AAC versus a 128k mp3, there may not be much noticeable difference, if everything else is equal.

I gotta assume that after a string of "late 70's" shows (that is--1975 thru '79) in a row, we will hear an early '70s show next week:
-First guess: 7/14/73 -Second guess: 7/3/71

'75 was a freaky year chart wise. "Love Will Keep Us Together" did the same thing a few weeks later. Fell from #1 to #8 on July 19, 1975 then had following chart movement 13-17-17-13-13-19-32 finally falling out of AT40 on September 13, 1975 & out of Hot 100 September 27, 1975 after a 23 week chart run.

Ok, I am the one who is giving the clue for next week's show on Premiere. There is one instrumental that made it to #1 or #2 in the top 40. Remember that all 10 years of the 70s are in the mix. Have fun.
