On the weekend of April 9, 1994, I don't believe Casey nor Rick mentioned Kurt Cobain's death from 4 days earlier, even though "All Apologies" was on the countdown. Not sure what Shadoe said.

A little AT40 trivia for 10/20/73…
The zigzagging Top 40 appearances of Kris Kristofferson’s “Why Me” bookended two AT40 specials. Casey first played it on July 14, 1973, following its Top 40 debut during the week of the Disappearing Acts special. And nearly 6 months later, the song finally exited the Top 40 survey as a current on December 15, 1973, the week prior to AT40’s Christmas countdown. Of course, there’s more. Casey gave the “prayer in reverse” one last airing, the week after the holiday program, on 12/29/73 as one of the year’s Top 40.
Lots of great trivia in 1973… now back to the countdown.

A lot of activity revolving around the metaphysical(a word used in this week's 80s show) during first regular shows of the year in the 70s. In 1971, listeners waited until the end of the countdown to find out that "My Sweet Lord" held on for a 4th week at #1. As Pete alluded to on the first show of 1974, Casey divulged whether or not "Why Me Lord" had tied or broken the longevity record. It did not. In the first show of 1978, people wondered whether "You Light Up My Life" had set the record for most weeks at #1 in the rock era over the holidays. It did not. And hitting #1 on the first show of 1979 was "Too much Heaven".

WSQL is running the 1970 show as of right now. Stream is crummy. Sounding much better I'm hearing a lot of static. I can imagine they are still drying out there, but stream isn't quite there yet.

There was no mention by Casey in either 4/9 or 4/16 (its final week in the 40), at least either before or after the song was played. And since it wasn't charting on AT40, I don't think Shadoe mentioned anything. Judging by the cue sheets, no mention, unless it was in one of the "AT40 Music News" bits (which it wasn't on the 4/9 show).

WSQL starting the '73 show. With a poor-quality stream, same as last week.

The 2nd Optional Extra on 10-20-73 was a "superfan" request.... I hope Premiere understands what this can lead to....

Nirvana didn't make Shadoe AT40 until Fall 1994 with "About a Girl", but at that time the old AT40 was in its final months heard overseas and not in the USA.

I used to have a 'scoped' (only the intros/outros of the songs) cassette of this 10/20/73 show that I recorded off of KHYT. I remembered that because the tape was getting near the end of side 'B' of the cassette and I was worried that I had restarted "Ramblin' Man" too soon. Casey sure let the long outro of that song play for a while on this particular show. As I recall, I barely squeezed in the end of "Angie" and just the very start of Casey's end-of-show wrap-up when the tape ran out.

I'll go with 10/23/76 over 10/25/75 for next weekend. 1976 show last aired as an A show in 2010. 10/23/76 was a B show in 2018. 10/25/75 was last featured by Premiere in 2019.

Normally I would be annoyed at having #1 spoiled (I actually thought it was "Midnight Train To Georgia) but in this case now I know I can turn the show off a little early. Only Stones song I can honestly say I hate.

We get a taste of hit music from October 1975 during the October 20, 1979 countdown, with a review of three late ‘75 number one singles. And during the 10/25/75 show, Casey promoted his appearance in the made-for-TV movie The Night That Panicked America. Anyone know if that movie is getting a Halloween broadcast this year?

Casey said in an 1988 radio interview that appearing in "The Night That Panicked America" was one of the highlights of his career.

Guess I assume everyone active here has access to Whitburn, UMD, Billboard archives, etc. One week early for Gladys.
