It's been a few weeks, so possibly 1979 this week, paired with an early 70's show?

There were four "AT40 Specials" on this week's A show presentation from 10/17/70:"Twixt Twelve & Twenty"-Pat Boone (1959)-That's one of the OE (Optional Extras)-The other three songs were "Make The World Go Away"-Eddy Arnold (1965),"Walk Don't Run"-The Ventures (1960) & "Jumpin' Jack Flash"-Rolling Stones (1968)-I'm assuming those songs will stay in the broadcast.

On the 10-15-77 show, Debby Boone's "You Light Up My Life" would break the long standing record for longest #1 with its first of ten weeks at #1.

Two of the OE's from 10/17/70 were future # 1 hits:"I Think I Love You" & "Tears Of A Clown". The concept of Optional Extras for AT40 programs goes back to 1970 when a handful of stations asked Watermark for filler material, with some affiliates not having a weekend commercial load to round out each hour. (see Rob Durkee’s book, page 63) With 14 Casey-voiced extras, the first of these reels featured highlights taken from Billboard magazine’s 1969 year-end issue: top instrumental artist (Booker T & The MGs), top new singles artist (Three Dog Night), etc. Stations opted to use whatever material was needed.

Casey alerted listeners to back to back songs by artists with the same last name....R. Dean and James Taylor. ("Fire and Rain" is not my favorite JT song but is his most award deserving song IMO). There were 4 other pairs of same last name artists who were back to back in the 70s and 80s. Rod and Amii Stewsrt in 1979, Elton and Robert John for 3 weeks in 1979, Michael and Jermaine Jackson in 1980, Michael and Joe Jackson for 3 weeks in 1982. And an honorable mention to James and Carly Simon Taylor as Casey called her once or twice. They were back to back in 1972 and 77. Of course she was always billed as Carly Simon.

Too bad that 1979 never got a Stewart trifecta, with John or Al joining Amii and Rod back to back to back on the same week's 40. Amii, Al, and Rod were all in the 40 at the same time in Feb/Mar, but Al's "Song On the Radio" petered out at 29.
