Interesting that Casey included Marvin Gaye in his list of "superstar acts that didn't make the Top 40 in 1972" -- he was 2 weeks away from debuting with "Trouble Man". He also mentioned John Lennon and George Harrison. Harrison released no music in 1972, but Lennon put out a controversial feminist single that predictably fell short of top 40.

I noticed that the chorus to Austin Roberts' "Something's Wrong With Me" sounds similar to the chorus of Barry Manilow's "I Write The Songs." The Osmonds' acid rocker "Crazy Horses" became Aerosmith's cocaine rocker 5 years later with "Draw The Line."

While the powers that be may have already developed the full show schedule for 2020... It would be fun to hear the 1970 year-end show in 2020, and then 1971 in 2021, and then 1972 in 2022, etc. While fans here might like to hear the year-end show which hasn't been played in awhile, the casual music fan might enjoy hearing the top songs from 50 years ago. The same could be done for the 80s shows... the 1980 year-end show in 2020, 1981 in 2021, etc. Just an idea.

I do think they may play the 1970 debut show as a regular offering in 2020, for AT40's 50th anniversary. The last time Premiere did that was in 2010 for the 40th. Of course I've heard it plenty of times since then, including from Sirius XM which airs it as a special pretty much every July 4 or thereabouts.

I wonder how many stations will play all 4 hours of both parts of this countdown? Some stations might have extra time to fill because of the holidays.

And I wouldn't rule out the 1970 year-ender...I just think outside of a few shows (the debut show being one of them), I think Premiere doesn't factor in things like the last digit in a year when selecting about 99% of the shows (much as some of us like to think they do ).

And, of course, don't forget the iHeart classic AT40 channel will have all the year-end shows in full, if anyone can't find a station to air all 4 hours of 1976, or can't be around when it airs.

Magic 103.1 / WTOJ will air the ENTIRE 8 hours of the 1976 countdown on Sunday, December 29th beginning at 9 AM running all morning and afternoon until 5 pm. No splitting of the 2 parts. Get it all in ONE SHOT. Then, on January 5th, we'll pick another year and play that back in it's entirety. Haven't decided what that year will be just yet, so stay tuned.

Why would this be difficult for the '70s series? Casey took very few vacations these years, and all 10 year-enders are available. If the crew played it smart, this could be done. Pairing B shows for 2020 - 2022 (1970 - 1972 shows for the "A" option) might be interesting as they probably wouldn't want to feature shows that would be played within a 5 year period. The '80s series might be different as Casey took more vacations during the year so setting up a multi-year plan of year-enders could be more difficult. Given that '80 and '81 haven't been played for awhile, is there a reason why '80 couldn't be featured next year, and '81 the following year? I'm not trying to start anything here... although I usually enjoy sitting by the bowl of garlic mashed potatoes at the Christmas table so if you want to start something, I might just fling a big glob of potatoes at you .

It's all good...was just a friendly jab. But we know Premiere doesn't think like that; although your point is well taken. 1980 and 1981 would be due for year-enders the next couple years, and 1982 would be good to repeat by the end of 2022. I might have most of that bowl of garlic potatoes eaten...LOL...they are good!!!
