This week in 1974, "Sweet Home Alabama" fell off the Hot 100 chart and "Free Bird" entered the chart.
Last month, Larry Junstrom, one of the original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd passed away. He was with the group for 7 years.
Junstrom joined another band in 1976, which he retired from in 2014. In other words, he spent 38 years with .38 Special.

I enjoyed watching "Pop Up Video" & "Behind The Music" on VH-1. Those were both great shows. And they were actually about music! If MTV/VH1 was going to move toward airing shows and movies, you wish they would've at least not completely sold out where they came from. Another good one was Storytellers.

As of November 1979 that is correct. Barely, in the case of both "Letting go" and "London Town", both of which peaked at #39, but they still count as top 40 records. Disregarding the Xmas song (which I would), sir Paul would not miss the 40 until "Tug Of War" would peter out at #53 in the fall of '82. Barry's top 40 streak would end a year and a half earlier, when "Lonely Together" would top out at #45 in the spring of '81. Waterfalls in 1980 missed the Hot 100 entirely. A friend of mine that is a huge McCartney fan thought that Waterfalls by TLC was a re-make of the McCartney song

The optional extras for November 23, 1974: "Dark Horse" George Harrison "Only You" Ringo Starr "Dancin' Fool" The Guess Who I like how they kept "Beatle Mania" intact with extras by George and Ringo along with Lennon and McCartney with each of their existing hits in the survey. Just a few short weeks later, each individual Beatle would have hits of their own in the survey AT THE SAME TIME. Their is one song in the countdown that sounds like a Lennon and McCartney duet which is "So You Are A Star" by Kate's Dad and Two Uncles I'm looking forward to this show which also happens to have one of the best #1 songs from 1974 IMO- Billy Swan's "I Can Help". That song sounds like it was recorded back in 1957.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 11/27/71 2nd Guess - 12/1/73
Feels like it should be 1971 for next week, but 1972 and '73 are due too.

Ringo with a Southern accent, maybe "I Can Help" is one of those songs that were offered to Elvis but turned down -- then when it became a hit Elvis started doing it in his live shows.

Speaking of "I Can Help",you hear applause at the end-That's because the musicians noticed that during the recording,a pet dog which belonged to the recording engineer, was rubbing against Billy's pants leg.

I thought of that...but did he mean one 1971 period, or one 1971 'A' show? If so, there should be another '71 show. There's only been one since the beginning of July, and that happened in mid-August. That seems like a long time to go between shows, but maybe Pete really meant one more 1971, A or B...

"Dark Horse" which was hitbound on 11/23/74 was also the name of a label that was started by George Harrison-His first release in the fall of 1976 was "Thirty Three & A Third"-That album produced a pair of top forty hits:"This Song" & "Crackerbox Palace"-George was the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" the evening of 11/20/76-I remember they aired the videos for those songs.

Yes, he (jokingly) showed up to claim the $3,000 check that Lorne Michaels had supposedly written for a Beatles reunion. Paul Simon was the host that of that show, it was a good one.
