KOKZ is playing 1979 “This Saturday at 8AM enjoy October 13th, 1979 (4 HOUR SHOW) and on Sunday at 8AM tune in for October 4th, 1980” Man it sure feels like KOKZ is going back to their earlier strategy of avoiding anything pre-1973. This will be the third straight pre-1973 show (8/21/71, 9/5/70, and now 10/7/72) that they have eschewed for the 'B' show option. Not upset about that, especially when it comes to the 4-hour '78-'79 shows.

Meanwhile WMGN, which for a while avoided almost everything pre-1973 but not so much lately, so far can't seem to make up its mind about either decade for next weekend. As of Tuesday at noon both are marked "tba". I was somewhat surprised by KOKZ's choice, as fall 1972 isn't quite the same musically as 1970-71, but glad for it as that at least gives us one place we can count on for the complete 1979 show. I may try to take the Premiere Casey challenge and see if I can get all 15 hours of AT40s in, as I either like all these shows or haven't heard them in a long time.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 10/12/74 2nd Guess - 10/15/77
So a bit of a crap shoot for next week -- there are a handful of possibilities, but I'll guess these two have the best chance, and maybe in no particular order.

10/12/74 has been in regular rotation on the 24-hour "AT40" channel from I-Heart Radio.

You're so funny, referring to this as a crap shoot, when your number two guesses are correct -- both 70s and 80s. And now a word from a certain Premiere advertiser.

OK, so now I get what Hervard's post in the 80's thread meant. Debby's 10-week run at #1 begins... The optional extras from the last airing of 10/15/77 (October 12-13, 2013): Hour #1: "Slip Slidin' Away" - Paul Simon (#81; debuted) Hour #2: "Mandy" - Barry Manilow (original AT40 extra) Hour #3: "Falling" - LeBlanc & Carr (#87; debuted)

"You Light Up My Life" is a certifiable guilty pleasure-I remember when Debby Boone performed it on "The Phil Donahue Show" in the fall of 1977.

^"Falling" was 16 weeks away from the countdown. Crazy--didn't break into the top 40 until 2/4/78! Similar to "I Go Crazy" (no pun intended )...

Similar to "I Go Crazy" (no pun intended )... 1975's "Black Superman-Muhammad Ali" is another member of the 'entered the Hot 100 long before reaching the top 40' club, March to August, with a several-week gap in May/June. And 1982's "Tainted Love", January to May of that year.

Kinda glad that they did, as it was a quarter after six by the time I remembered. Otherwise, I would have missed the yet-to-be-played first hour of the 1979 show. I wonder what stations are going to play that full 1979 show? Hopefully, WPAC will, so we can listen to that one at our leisure.
