Casey mentioned the Beatles connection in an earlier show, while the song was still rising but before it got to the top 10, might have been right after the song appeared in the 40. Might have been January '73, actually heard him mention it on that earlier show.

The questions I have at this point are this: In 2008, we have not heard any shows from either 1977 or 1979. I understand that the 1979 shows are all four hours long, although that shouldn't really be an issue since Premiere Radio Networks (I think I have that right) has already aired one four-hour era show (the Oct. 14, 1978 AT40). The lack of 1977 broadcasts, I don't quite understand as of yet.
Thanks for the opportunity to post of this board.

Hopefully they will play the 5/7/77 show when one of the greatest songs ever written, "Hotel California" went to #1.

Looking at the original cue sheet for this weekend's show, I noticed a segment that didn't air on this weekend's "AT40: The 70s" (originally #721-9, 2/26/72). It happened right after #22, "Jungle Fever" by Chakachas. It was a special feature, spotlighting The Monkees' "I'm A Believer." What struck me as odd was how the group was credited on the cue sheet: Minkeys. Obviously, someone at Watermark had a sense of humor (or had seen one too many Peter Sellers films!)

Actually, that segment was not missing from this week's show. But it was treated as an optional extra and, therefore, edited to be played after the outro of hour 2 (= after song #15). And, unfortunately, if a station does not have enough time left, they will skip those extras. They are introduced by Ed McMann and are normally songs that have just entered the Hot 100, left the Top 40 or were about to break into them. Two original AT 40 extras on the show from 2/13/71 two weeks ago were treated similarily, but the third in hour 3 ("The Weight" by The Band) was replaced by a conventional optional extra. Odd programming...

Mark, I remember listening to that broadcast from the weekend of 5/7/1977 and how glad I was to hear "Hotel California" at #1. That week also featured some other great rock staples -- Foreigner's "Feels Like The First Time" (their first Top 40 hit in the U.S.), Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" (which would become their only #1 song the following month), and "Calling Dr. Love" by Kiss, which would only get as high as #16 on the Billboard chart. The broadcast that I'm hoping to hear again is from the weekend of 4/9/1977, when ABBA's "Dancing Queen" hit the top. Casey provided a great intro to that song by stating that ABBA had toured much of the world, but had not yet toured the U.S. and would not do so UNTIL they had a #1 song in the states. As he finished, Casey gleefully exclaimed, "Anni-Frid, Benny, Bjorn, Agnetha...START PACKING YOUR BAGS!!"

Well, your wish may come true. I was just sent a request for one of 2 shows for that that week - 4-13-74 or 4-9-77...and whichever I have in the best shape will get the nod. I take it by the time the March 5, 1977, show aired, AT40 was using the 1977 "Starlight Vocal Band" bumper music package for commercial outros. That seemed to be one of the best sets of commercial cues.
Incidentally, on the encore presentation that aired of the Oct. 14, 1978, show, the 1977 music package was still being used ... or was this just done in editing?
Shannon — I ask again: Are there any plans to air AT40 shows from 1979 (edited to 3 hours, of course)? If so, what would be interesting is to air three of those shows, back-to-back-to-back later this year: the Dec. 22, 1979 regular countdown, the Top 50 of 1979 show from Dec. 29, 1979, and then the "Top 50 of the 1970s" show from Jan. 5, 1980. A friendly suggestion for later on this year!

Brian I can remember the first two AT40 four-hour shows using the 1977 bumper jingles, because XM ran the October 7, 1978 show a while back, and it still had the bumper jingles from 1977. While I know that the syndicated AT40 shows have been altered from the original versions, I doubt that they would go so far as to use different themes and/or jingles from the way they were when the show originally aired.

By the way, if anyone wants to see Premiere's cue sheet of this weekend's 70s show, it's here: images.radcity.net/5874/2471083.pdf(I thought I read somewhere here that the 70s show wasn't on CD...)

It's not. That's a standard template that Premiere uses for all of the cue sheets for Casey's various shows.

It's a great information. How can we get an access to the cue sheet for each week? By the way, if anyone wants to see Premiere's cue sheet of this weekend's 70s show, it's here: images.radcity.net/5874/2471083.pdf(I thought I read somewhere here that the 70s show wasn't on CD...)
