This one is for Brian, our country music fan... On this week's AT40 /70s program from Premiere, we heard Olivia Newton-John's "Please Mr. Please" where she asks a "button-pushing cowboy" not to play the jukebox's B17. Assuming the record she doesn't want to hear is a country song in this fictional scenario -- and all in the spirit of fun -- I'd like you to take a guess what 1975 current or oldie could she be talking about. According to Olivia, if "it was our song, it was his song", more than likely it *wasn't* "Third Rate Romance". lol Amazing Love by Charley Pride would be a good fit, lyrically, to be B-17. (#1 in 1973, not long before the initial early 74 release of the song by its co-composer Bruce Welch.)

Predicted extras:
• "Sugar Baby Love" – The Rubettes. A catchy little forgotten gem that was a huge hit in the UK. • "Earache My Eye" – Cheech and Chong. One of their many famous comedy routines where teenagers were portrayed as stoned losers who had zero, if not less, interest in school. "Sister Mary Elephant" was along the same lines. • "Never My Love" – Blue Suede. The remake of the Association's hit. Would later become a top 10 country hit for Vern Gosdin in 1978.
80sat40fan: Actually, there's not that much of a drought in possible extras. I picked three different extras that all made the top 40, two of them top 10 hits. And the other likely possibilities all come from country, soul, rock and pop styles.
In fact, I'm picking one longshot extra – and it's not a minor pop hit that made it big on the country charts (although the song did appear on the Hot Country Singles chart but failed to reach the top 40). And actually, it was a song that was already had peaked on the Hot 100, was on its way down the chart and had dropped a couple of weeks earlier below the top 40 … only for it to rebound and return for a short second run in the top 40. This week, it had moved up five spots from No. 49 to No. 44 and was about to re-enter the top 40:
• "One Hell of a Woman" by Mac Davis.

While there were many songs moving up the chart, very few of the songs receive airplay today, hence my comment. Outside of Bad Company's song and America's tune, very few other tunes get any airplay. By the way, didn't a Paul McCartney & Wings song get selected as an Optional Extra on a show earlier this year as it was rebounding up the Hot 100 at the time... or was the flip side being played as an OE?

Believe you are thinking of "Sally G", the flip side of "Junior's Farm". The record did indeed go back up the chart for awhile due to "Sally G" airplay.
