Last weekend september 10/11, 2011 was the final show of the urban chart The Countdown, hosted by Walt Baby Love. The chart show was born in 1982 and next year was going to celebrate its 30th anniversary. It´s the longest urban music chart show and last night it came to the end. Lately there were 2 editions, urban mainstream and Hot AC. Walt Baby Love will continue with his only syndicanted show Gospel Traxx www.waltbabylove.com/

That's not cool at all! I think the Urban AC version of the show could certainly be maintained, as it's certainly more appealing (and appropriate) to who his target audience is these days. Do you have any recording of the last show you could send to me? If you do, I'd really appreciate it very much.

In the 70's,Walt "Baby" Love was on two NY radio stations that no longer exist: WXLO (99X) & WNBC.

I havent heard any reason of the ending. So all can be considered, even low audiences . Because , IMHO, if the show is still popular , a new hoster would be found, if that the case Walt is tired of doing it an only wants to do Gospel Traxx .

In the case of the Mainstream Urban version of the show, I'll bet a dwindling number of affiliates and consequent loss of ratings and advertising revenue did contribute. After all, his style and delivery weren't really suited to the kind of music making that chart anymore. The axing of the Urban AC version, on the other hand, does strike me as surprising.

How many remember Walt Baby Love working at Top 40 WXLO (99X) in NYC in the '70's?

Believe it or not this *is* the first "countdown" show that I have ever listened to faithfully as a kid before I was even a teenager. Then months later I added AT40 to list of shows to keep up with. Those who know me know that "urban" music has always been the root of everything I listen to. No Urban AC but you still have "Cannon's Countdown" and "Live In The Den with Big Tigger" for your Urban Mainstream countdown source. I really don't know of any others at the moment, if you do, please let me know.
Yours, Josh Joel

There is a Top 40 on BBC Radio 1 Xtra , Saturdays , 2pm CET, 8 am EST . Its called BBC Radio 1Xtra Chart : www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/chart/singles/It used to be more urban, now it seems to be bland and camp pop.

I'll never forget hearing somewhere that Walt "Baby" Love is the first Black person to dee jay on a country music station in Houston, Texas (The South). I believe in the 60s. Don't remember what radio station.
