I don't think we'll get the 2009 shows, or 8/6/88. I think itll be 7/4/70

The last 717s were delivered in 2005. The last of the 40-year-old DC-9 line. The only aircraft still being made by Boeing at the former McDonnell Douglas plant in Long Beach are the last few C-17 military transports that the USAF and a few foreign air forces have on order. Unless the Defence Department and Congress agree to keep the C-17 line going (unlikely), the old "Home of the DC Jets" will soon be shut down. So. if Bill Withers was in Southern California in the late 60s/early 70s, then he was definitely NOT installing toilets on Boeing 747s, but rather Douglas DC-8s, DC-9s, and/or DC-10s at Long Beach.

Interesting "Whatever happened to" on this show... SSgt Barry Sadler had just released a new song. Well, it got a lot more interesting for Sadler.
3 years later he would kill songwriter Lee Emerson Bellamy in a dispute over a woman. Sadler was sentenced to 4-5 years for voluntary manslaughter and served 21 days. He had to pay $10,000 in restitution for wrongful death.
Sadler himself was shot in the head in a robbery attempt while in Guatemala training Contra rebels in 1988, and died in 1989 from complications at age 49.
There is not nor will there ever be another Casey Kasem, but Lou Simon does a great job on the SXM 60s Satellite Survey, which is where I remembered hearing about this.

WODC just dropped "Oldies 93 3" in the middle of a song again, #23.

A few exceptions like "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Hey Jude", of course, but most songs were well under three minutes.

That's plenty of time to spin 40 hits of the '60s along with some cool extras, with no commercials.

Thanks for all that info. I forgot about the commercial-free part.

It looks like the current AT40, at least, will be airing a special tribute to Casey Kasem next weekend, perhaps in lieu of the regular countdown show. www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/130567/american-top-40-will-honor-casey-kasem-with-on-airWith that in mind, it would not at all surprise me if both the 1970s and 1980s shows are replaced by this same tribute show. Then, the following weekend, we'd get the first and last original AT40 shows featuring Casey Kasem – July 4, 1970 and Aug. 6, 1988 – before going back to the regular schedule. Brian

Brian Why on earth would classic hits stations airing old Casey shows air a Ryan Seacrest hosted show with current CHR music? My guess is these are the same clips of Casey that Ryan played on the 40th anniversary show in 2010. It'll be a great tribute though. Again, i still don't know why 8/6/88 would be a show aired to celebrate his life. 7/4/70, absolutely. But 8/6/88 is just a regular show with mediocre music. Lets get a special in for the 80s show if they are even going to deviate from the schedule

The way I read the All Access post, the entire show is one of clips and tributes to Casey Kasem, rather than the standard countdown. We'll have to wait and see what exactly is in the kicker for this coming weekend. Brian

I cannot imagine Ryan won't be doing the current countdown. As I said in another thread, he was one who didn't want things stopped over him or really for most anything. The ultimate tribute he would want is the shows to do what they were designed to....count down the hits.

The ultimate tribute he would want is the shows to do what they were designed to....count down the hits. Well, I understand that. Casey knew he was loved and respected, and I'm sure that he'd be the last one to want people to worship him as though he were God. I remember I wrote an editorial for the newspaper I work for earlier this year reflecting on the Beatles and their influence/impact on popular music throughout the world, and said that the last thing John, Paul, George and Ringo wanted to be known as were gods. (Even though there were people who undoubtedly worshipped them as though they were gods.) Again, I've absolutely no clue as to how Premiere is going to handle this. Will we get a special or will we get the show that was scheduled for this weekend? Hard to say from my standpoint. If they give us a special and Ryan Seacrest's voice is featured in some way, it won't kill people 50 and over who have all the distaste in the world for him to hear him for one week. After all, this is a special circumstance rather than him hearing him on a regular basis. It won't be the end of the world. But whatever Premiere give us, I'll be listening as usual and that'll be the end of that. It'll be an AT40 show, it'll play, life goes on. No complaints. No whining. End of discussion. Brian

The main reason they won't air the special as a part of the 70s and 80s package regardless of content is because those stations do not have a contract with the current show. Technically it would be conflict of interest to air a show that is contracted on a set number of stations on a different station base. And I know in numerous markets The show would actually be scheduled against itself. There are countless markets where the Clear Channel pop station and the Clear Channel classic hits station are simultaneously airing Casey and Ryan
