If you haven't, watch Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, you'll be moved, then hear and see "Amazing Grace" in a different light, I think they got their idea to use it on film from this particular version, James Horner does well mixing the song with his soundtrack score for one scene. (Shatner on) KHAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!!! (Shatner off) Don't get me wrong. This song and bagpipes have their place and can be very moving (I'm a big Star Trek fan, too). I just don't know how it made it's way into the top 40! I just can't imagine "boss jocks" at the time squeezing this record into their playlists!

Error on the show: Casey says before #3 that Kyu Sakamoto hit #1 with the original version of "Sukiyaki" in 1962, "19 years ago this week". It was 18 years earlier, in June 1963. The first of two foreign language #1 songs that year, "Dominique" being the second.

Another factual error on the show: If Bill Withers was installing toilets on Boeing 747s before hitting it big with "Ain't No Sunshine" (which has been established as fact), he wasn't doing it anywhere in Southern California, as Casey stated in his story before playing Withers singing on #11 "Just the Two of Us". He would have to have been working at Boeing's only wide-body assembly plant in Everett, Washington, north of Seattle.

Casey said just that on the 5/27/72 show in saying essentially the same story that he told on the 6/13/81 show.

Installed; source: www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/musical/2010/03/08/100308crmu_music_frerejones?currentPage=allBut... I think we have the wrong wide-body airplane here. The 747 was made in Washington; the DC-10, on the other hand, called Long Beach, California home, a plant that now makes the Boeing 717.

Today's example on why to be sure to plan to be early (I was) and late on Classic AT40 shows: KOKZ was early today starting; #40 was already playing when the clock struck 10 EDT.

WBBG is one of my primary sources - wonder if repeating 06.03.72 was intentional or by accident. I switched to WQOL but they came back late from commercial break with about 30 seconds left of #18 - How Long by Ace.
Went to KACL which starts an hour later and after playing #8 - Thank God I'm Country Boy from '75 show - they came back after break with #6 from '72 show - Morning Has Broken. After the next break they went back to the '75 show.
Geesh - after the movie '2001' - I thought Hal was just gonna do us in - didn't know he would mess up our radio programming!

Casey finally got it right in identifying Ray Stevens' #1 songs. 2 and 3 weeks earlier he made mistakes in identifying them. 3 weeks earlier he said "The Streak" and "Ahab the Arab" were his 2 #1 songs. Then 2 weeks earlier, he tried to correct that mistake but made another even worse mistake. He said "The Streak" and "Mr. Businessman" were his 2 #1 hits. However, the latter song only peaked at 28. Could be the worst mistake(s) Casey ever made on AT40. And he never actually acknowledged making those mistakes, just stating that "The Streak" and "Everything is Beautiful" were his 2 #1 hits routinely in this week's show.
