Casey said 3 songs had debuted in the top 10. Should have said 3 artists had done that because the Beatles debuted at #10 with "Hey Jude" and "Get Back". The executives in Dave Loggins record label had a roller coaster ride following his career. Disappointed in 1973 waiting for him to finish writing "Please Come to Boston". Ecstatic in 1974 when it hit the top 10. Back to disappointment in 1975 with no hits from him. Ditto that in subsequent years. Always think it's cool when a segment is prophetic or fits in with what artists or hits will do. Such is the case when Casey answers the question about the first black artists to hit #1. He answers it in between 2 black artists on their way to #1...Billy Preston and Barry White. Promotes the producers special coming up. You know the only one that did not have a #1 hit to his credit was the first one at #10, Thom Bell. That would change 3 weeks after that special when "Then Came You" hit the top for Bells only "1 hit.

ahhhh...I was beginning my senior year of high school for this countdown....what a lot of fond memories! First week of Junior year for me. And that was the last year that school started the day after Labor Day in my district. The first week of school in '75-'76 (Senior year) was the week before Labor Day weekend. Felt we got 'cheated' out of a week of summer that year. And it's only gotten earlier--now every district in my area starts by mid-August.

"Earache My Eye" by Cheech & Chong was one of the featured selections on this week's A show presentation from 9/7/74-It was slightly over the top to say the least.

I'll go with 9/13/75 over 9/16/78 for next weekend. 9/13/75, which last aired in 2013, has not been the A show since 2010. The 1978 show last aired as the A show in 2009, B show in 2021. I'll go with 9/17/77 for the B show.

9/7/1974 - As I hear it this Saturday morning via WXXM Rewind 92.1 FM Madison, Wisconsin:
15 foreign acts in the countdown.
Mac Davis has 2 entries - 1 new at #40 ("Stop and Smell The Roses") and a re-entry at #36 ("One Hell of a Woman"). I wonder what caused that "One Woman" song by Mac Davis to re-enter the top 40? There wasn't a B-side tied to this.

Interesting that Mac Davis' song 'One Helluva Woman' spent 28 weeks on the Hot 100, while the song exited the Cash Box charts after 20 weeks and Record World after 19.

On 9/15/79 Casey noted that the cost of producing albums by superstar acts like Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, and ELO could run half a million dollars. Shortly thereafter the Eagles released "The Long Run", which cost about $800,000, and Fleetwood Mac "Tusk" which cost $1.4 million. This led into "My Sharona" at #1, which was produced by Mike Chapman who prided himself on the low cost of the hits he produced.

Glad WVLI Kankakee aired AT40: The 70's back at the 3 PM time slot after a delay with no sports last Saturday.
And the 9/7/1974 AT$0: The 70's show restored at the end the 1970-1975 theme instead of the Shuckatoom theme like back in 2017!
