Two members of 10CC,Kevin Godley & Lol Creme, were in another band called Hotlegs-Their one trip into the top forty was "Neanderthal Man" which reached the top 40 in the late summer-early fall of 1970. And a lot of people thought that Hotlegs were The Beatles.

It didn’t hit the top 40 in the U.S. Shame. If the record company had marketed the song better in America, I’m sure it would have done better. They play it on the Sirius Yacht Rock station all the time. The UK Charts back in the day had several awesome hits that didn’t chart on AT40. That would have been a great segment on AT40 back then instead of the long distance dedications.

Here are three possible Optional Extras for Ken Martin’s June 29, 1974 presentation. All three suggestions are Top 40 hits from 1974 – and submitted tongue-in-cheek: 1) Natural Four’s Can This Be Real 2) Tower of Power’s Don’t Change Horses (In The Middle Of The Stream) 3) Latimore’s Let’s Straighten It Out My own guesses for the WTOJ custom 6/29/1974 would be "La Grange" by ZZ Top and "Keep on Smilin'" by Wet Willie; plus for WTOJ and the national 6/29/1974 show (replacing if I guess "Sure Am I Sitting Here" for the national) "Hooked On a Feeling" by Blue Suede to honor the wtiter of that "Hooked on a Feeling" song (originally done by B.J. Thomas before Blue Suede covered it) who died recently.

This '75 show is the chart in which "Old Days" took a 1982-esque dive from 17 to 41. "Old Days" was the biggest dropper on the Hot 100 falling 24. "Fight The Power" was the biggest mover on the Hot 100 up 24. Within the Top 40, the biggest mover & dropper traded places. "Please Mister Please" by Olivia Newton-John moving 34 to 15. "Bad Luck" by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes falling 15 to 34. That happened again 5 years to the week on June 22, 1980. "Magic" by Olivia Newton-John moved from 36 to 24. "Ride Like The Wind" by Christopher Cross fell from 24 to 36. There was at least 5 songs on the Hot 100 that debuted at #100. In contrast, there was no songs between 1978 & 1987 that debuted at #100.

If I'm not mistaken, the "AT40" staff didn't receive the "Hot 100" chart from 6/29/74 & therefore had to guess where the songs ranked in the top forty that particular week.

Casey had to leave for Hawaii as he had been cast in an episode of "Hawaii Five-0". Billboard didn't have its 6/29/74 chart ready before Casey's departure, so they decided to guesstimate the chart so he could complete the show before leaving. (Maybe they couldn't find a guest host either? "Humble Harve" hosted the next regular AT40, for 7/13/74.)

"Neanderthal Man" was my FAVORITE song that year! I just wish I had seen the video for the song when it was actually out, instead of soooooooooo many years later on YouTube.

When Humble Harv Miller guest hosted for Casey on 7/13/1974, there was a taped intro by Casey at the beginning.
