A 'no one there minding the store' automation failure? Did the time change screw things up? The time change shouldn't be the problem this late in the week. The automation sounds like it's working fine there's no glitches just no AT40.

WSQL aired news at the top of the hour as normal. But no AT40 after. Around 5:50, the dj said Casey Kasem would be on the air at 7pm with the show from March 10, 1979.

The WSQL extra at the end of the first hour is Fire by the Pointer Sisters. It's deja vu all over again.

That seemed odd to say the first year of disco was 1977. Until I figured out that Casey meant it was the first full year of the disco chart which started in September 1976. Disco was certainly a mainstay in 1976. I come up with an average of 8 disco songs a week that year. So the weekly average went from 8 to 5 to 7 to 10 so far in 1979. By the way, he made a big deal out of Chic having 2 songs in the countdown. He could have also mentioned that the main guys behind Chic who were Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, produced back to back debuts when Sister Sledge was played.

My reaction when I heard that was 'Uh, Casey, 1974 would like a word with you...' But I also figured he was going by the '76 start of Billboard's nationwide Disco chart that replaced the earlier 'Hot Disco Action' regional charts.

Casey just flunked Canadian geography. Leif Erikson and Co. first landed on the island of Newfoundland (which they dubbed 'Vinland') about a thousand years ago, not Nova Scotia. Although that now-province and others in maritime Canada almost certainly were also explored by the Norsemen/'Vikings' in subsequent years.

True, but perhaps it's a forgivable mistake if one considers that it's pretty apparent that Casey simply said whatever was placed in front of him to read.

Lots of factual errors in the scripts in those far-off pre-Internet days.

WSQL aired news at the top of the hour as normal. But no AT40 after. A new AT40 strategy apparently for Squirrelly radio... start all shows at 7pm EDT and let the 4hr run longer.
