Entire top 100 of 1978 airing Sunday morning at 9 ... non-stop until #1. All 8 hours in 1 day on WTOJ / Magic 103.1. Next Sunday, it's the B year end show. During the #1 montage it went to commercial then the segment restarted. Otherwise it is awesome watching football while hearing Casey in the background.. all day!!!

Yeah, somehow I grabbed the optional for the 4th hour that had the montage when I knew the last segment for that hour already had the montage. I was sitting in a liquor store parking lot when I heard that mistake and the best I could do was just segue to the next element. I get so worried about making sure all the segments are right for the year end shows but I missed that one. Sorry for the mistake!

I'll add "Brandy" by Looking Glass for WPGC in Washington, DC (one of AT40's first July 1970 affiliates), which is credited with effectively breaking "Brandy" nationally.

I notice that not one station picked the Billboard chart topper for the year--The First Time Ever I saw Your Face by Roberta Flack. Cash Box had American Pie at #1 for 1972, while Record World showed a tie for #1--Don McLean and Roberta Flack.

Just tuned into WPNC, and they are playing the Top 100 of 1977, currently at #9. Don't know if there's a marathon going on or not...nothing mentioned on their website.
Update: They started the Top 50 of 1980 after finishing 1977.

Update: They started the Top 50 of 1980 after finishing 1977. Bill Benjamin had mentioned running a marathon one of these holiday weeks (Christmas or NY) on Facebook 2 weeks ago in one of the AT40 groups, but never foloowed up on it.

I wonder what temporary Chicago AT40 station WCFL put at the top of their 1972 year end local music survey for the 1972 year. WCFL's #1 single of 1972 was Don McLean’s “American Pie.” And there’s an interesting back story to #1 songs for the year 1972 in Chicago. WLS-AM was WCFL’s primary competitor at the time. Upon the release of “American Pie” in late 1971, interpreting its lyrics was a hot topic. In fact, WCFL deejay Bob Dearborn created a lengthy, line-by-line description of the song’s meaning. And his write-up was so well received that this interpretation garnered Chicago newspaper attention, as well as requests by thousands of listeners throughout the Midwest who wanted a copy. From the perspective of another battle between the two Top 40 rivals, WCFL appeared to win the “American Pie” flag. And pure speculation on my part… After sitting at #1 for 6 weeks atop the WLS Hit Parade (from early January to mid-February), “American Pie” failed to rank among WLS’s Top 89 singles for 1972. It was nowhere to be found. Was it possible they overlooked a 6-week, #1 song when tabulating the year-end list? Or was it an envious and spiteful WLS? That’s what it looked like. By the way, Roberta Flack was #1 for the year on WLS.

For the stations noted here, Roberta Flack ranked among the year’s Top 10 at most of them. Apparently not as popular in Columbus, WDAK listed “The First Time Ever” at #53.

"Pie" was #2 on WABC and (oddly) #23 on WWDJ.

I wonder if January 14, 1978 is the first regular AT40: The 70's show for 2024 for the January 13-14, 2024 weekend as some hint (I think January 7, 1978 was guest hosted).
