One good thing about this choice in 1977--we get a break from "I Just Want To Be Your Everything." The song debuted on 5-28-77, and just dropped out of the Top 40 after 5 months!

With 10/28/78 last weekend and now 11/5/77, they will have played the bookend countdowns for chart year 1978.

"How Deep Is Your Love" was on the countdown for 11/5/77-It wound up spending 26 weeks on "AT40".

Richard carpenter talking to aliens is enough to make it the worst song to hit the 40 for me. Telephone man is horrible. And once you understand is probably worse. But many kill we built this city and I think itโs because of who Jefferson starship was. Calling all occupants to me is awful.

Not sure it's the worst ever, but certainly a big departure from their other songs...it's the Carpenters with "Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft". Not the worst ever, but perhaps the bookends of that particular countdown may have been the worst. I would take "Calling Occupants" over this week's Crapton & Tenille's "Muskrat Love" any day. One could argue that Captain & Tenille kind of bogarted The Carpenters' career starting in 1975. Ironically, both acts were on the A&M label. It's probably only a coincidence, but the Carpenters' "Only Yesterday" was their last top 10 hit, peaking in May 1975 just as C&T first hit with "Love Will Keep Us Together". Perhaps radio or the public only had room for one related male keyboardist and female singer duo at a time, whether they were spouses or siblings. As for "Calling Occupants", it's an odd but interesting diversion for the Carpenters and of course was first recorded by Klaatu, a Canadian band who are probably mostly remembered for an untruth that wasn't their fault, that being the "Beatles reunited?" hype that stemmed from them not revealing their identity on their debut album. And the #1 song on this chart I don't think is one of the worst ever, but rather is a decent enough tune that somehow got grossly overplayed.

While Toni Tennille had (has) a decent voice, Karen Carpenter's voice was a sublime instrument. Voices like hers are ultra-rare. How dare you talk sense on here!

It would be an "A" show, which stations will have the option of the 3 or 4 hour show, as for sure the "B" show will be a Christmas Special.

Here are my guesses for the November-December 2021 AT40: The 70's A shows with B show Christmas entries:
November 13-14, 2021: November 17, 1973 November 20-21, 2021: November 24, 1979 (4 hour show - First hour optional)* November 27-28, 2021: December 2, 1978 (4 hour show - First hour optional)* December 4-5. 2021: December 6, 1975 December 11-12, 2021: December 14, 1974 December 18-19, 2021: December 18, 1971 AND FOR THE AT40: THE 70'S YEAR END ENTRY FOR DECEMBER 25-26, 2021 AND JANUARY 1-2, 2022: The Top 80 of 1970 (A show entry) and the Top 100 of 1976 (B show entry - first hour optional on each)
* Note - November 24, 1979 could also be for November 27-28, 2021 - if so, then November 20-21 could be November 18, 1978 (4 hour show - first hour optional)

Optional extras for 11/5/1977:
Hour #1: "Baby Come Back" - Player Hour #2: "You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)" - Rod Stewart Hour #3: "Sweet Home Alabama" - Lynyrd Skynyrd (original AT40 extra)
"Sweet Home Alabama" has been demoted to optional extra status, replacing "Love Is Thicker Than Water", which was used last time.

That way, it would be indeed possible (as well as practical) to play the remaining four shows that have yet to be featured with Hour 1, in 2022.

Good show, but why not play 10/29/77 instead? It hasn't been aired since 2009, while 11/5/77 has aired twice since then. The selection of 1977 shows in the last three months of the year continues to baffle me.

They could have done 10/29/77 last weekend, but maybe that could come up for the weekend of 10/29-10/30 in 2022.
