How do you get Audacity to record the stream? The couple times I've used it, it records off of the speakers which is much lower quality. I missed this post back in May, so sorry for the long delay. There is a setting called "Audio Host" -- an unlabeled drop-down menu typically to the left of the drop-down menus for speaker and microphone selections. If you set that to "Windows WASAPI" (don't ask me what that acronym means), it will loop the audio from output to the recording input internally (as if it couples the speaker output to the mic input internally). It essentially records the stream as it sounds from the source without any noise, etc. added. Another way to do it is to run an audio cable from the speaker out to the mic in or line in, but that introduces another element and possible point of failure. Thanks, but that doesn't work I've tried. It records off the speakers which sounds crummy plus if you wanna listen to something else while recording that mixes in as well.

It appears that next weekend's show is from July 8, 1972, which last aired in 2017. "B" show could be from July 14, 1979.

It could though I’d prefer it be from 1976 or 1978 (or earlier) since we haven’t had a 1979 A since April, so it’s about time for that. 1971, 73, and 79 haven’t been A’s since before the last such 1972 show, and of course now 1970 is back in the mix as well.

The "A" show is actually from 7/15/1972. Here's the optional extras:
Hour #1: "Happy" - The Rolling Stones Hour #2: "Everybody Plays The Fool" - Main Ingredient Hour #3: "Beautiful Sunday" - Daniel Boone
The "B" show is from 7/10/1976. The optional extras are:
Hour #1: "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart" - Elton John & Kiki Dee Hour #2: "Baby I Love Your Way" - Peter Frampton Hour #3: "Whole Lotta Love" - Led Zeppelin (original AT40 extra)

Both 7/15/1972 and 7/10/1976 last aired in 2019.

It sounds like there is something that you aren't doing right -- I've done it that way for years now and my recordings sound great. If you use the WASAPI function correctly, the speakers don't come into play at all.

Interestingly enough, 9/19/70 has only had one 'A' show airing -- and that was in 2009. It was offered as a 'B' in 2012, but very few stations were playing 'B' shows since it was the first few months of 'B' shows.

I gave up using Audacity to record shows years ago when I discovered stream recording software like Rarmaradio and Streamwriter ,used both of those now for the past decade and always get good quality recordings (I do use Audacity to cut out the adverts and to sometimes tweak the sound on the recordings though )

It’s fun browsing through these Billboards. I noticed an ad in this 1972 issue showing the cover of Bobby Vinton’s LP and one of the songs listed on the cover was Some Kind Of Wonderful. Who knew that Grand Funk Railroad was getting their ideas from Bobby Vinton?

Who knew that Grand Funk Railroad was getting their ideas from Bobby Vinton? Not the same song, as Bobby recorded a Carole King/Gerry Goffin composition that the Drifters had first had a hit with in 1961. It would have been interesting to hear Grand Funk take on "My Melody of Love", though. Related to this week's show, 7/15/72 doesn't seem to make much sense when it was played just two years ago and other countdowns from the same time haven't been aired in longer, and (unlike 1987 last week) we aren't in a 1972 drought right now with that year being featured in April and at the end of May. Datewise it might have fit better next week, but possibly there's something with a date of or just after July 15 on tap. (7/17/71? 7/15/78?)

By the way, there is an interesting article in the 1976 issue of Billboard of a radio station in California that played pre-rock era music (1920's-1950's), and the success they were having.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 7/17/71 2nd Guess - 7/21/79
Well, the 1971 drought has gotten so long that there have now been three 1972 and three 1975 'A' shows played since the last 1971 'A' show. Starting the weekend of May 22nd, every year of the 70's was featured as an 'A' show except for these two...which makes it all the more curious as to why on earth a third 1972 show--one that was offered as an 'A' just two years ago--is the pick for this weekend. And here I was thinking the 70's schedule was starting to make more sense...silly me.
