Weekend of 5/21 'A' show 5/26/73 Extras: Hour #1: "The First Cut Is The Deepest" - Keith Hampshire Love that Keith Hampshire version of FCITD. Talented guy who never had a Top 40 hit in the US. A nod to their Canadian affiliates?

The third optional extra on the 5/22/76 countdown was "Saturday Night" by The Bay City Rollers-It was played as a tribute to member Les Mc Keown who recently passed away. The group also happened to be debuting on the 40 that week with their third U.S. single, "Rock and Roll Love Letter", at #37.

I really enjoyed the 73 show on WXXM, home of the 8 minute commercials. I liked the reverb Casey just right before Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein". I read Mary Shelley's book back in college. The book is so much better than what films have portrayed over the years. I tried twice in my younger years to get through that book. Failed both times. Guess I'll stick with Boris Karloff...and Peter Boyle!

More on AT40: The 70's 5/26/1973: Did Casey really envy Jud "Daisy a Day" Strunk at that 1973 time?

More on AT40: The 70's 5/26/1973: Did Casey really envy Jud "Daisy a Day" Strunk at that 1973 time? Unsure if Casey really meant that or not, but Strunk's 'off-the-grid' extremely rural lifestyle may have contributed to his untimely death. General aviation accident near his home in Maine, with Strunk piloting the aircraft. Details here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jud_StrunkIncidentally, when "Daisy a Day" was in it's chart run Strunk was finishing his one-year tenure as a regular on the final season (1972-73) of NBC's "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In". He was pretty funny on the once top-rated show, which was quickly 'running out of gas' by that final season. Most of the 'names' in the cast had left by then.

And an odd coincidence in radio/TV scheduling, Turner Classic Movies is scheduled to run Boris Karloff's "Frankenstein" tomorrow (Sunday, May 23) at 8pm Eastern.

By 5/26/73, the chart run of “Daisy A Day” was also running out of steam. In fact on 6/9/73, when Billboard overhauled the Hot 100 tabulation process and AT40 had a ‘different’ survey, Jud Strunk returned to the Top 40. But it really didn’t. Here are the positions of the song’s final Hot 100 weeks: 5/5/73 – 18 5/12/73 – 15 5/19/73 – 14 5/26/73 – 20 6/2/73 – 44 6/9/73 – off (on AT40, “Daisy A Day” returned to the Top 40 at #27) 6/16/73 – off

Anyone know if WTOJ is playing 1973 this morning? They always play 'A' shows; as previously mentioned their stream sounds awful right now. Thanks! Yeah, I thought it was just me. The stream sounds like it's playing way too loud, very distorted. Hopefully Ken Martin can fix!

Hopefully Ken Martin can fix! It's fixed, but not in time for the show. Sorry about that. We had a massive power outage here in Watertown this week and although the stream was up, I didn't actually check to see how it sounded. No more power outages, please?
