Obviously,"Me & Julio Down By The Schoolyard" was a way bigger hit in NYC because those listeners got the Queen Of Corona reference.

Don't know if Casey ever pointed this out in any of his later shows, but it is certainly something he would mention.
Jorge Santana (brother of Carlos) was a member of Malo. Their 1972 hit "Suavacito" can mean "smooth" in Spanish, and of course Carlos had an enormous hit titled "Smooth" 27 years later.

Hmmm I had always thought it was because Newsweek's home office was in New York. I wonder why Paul chose Newsweek over Time. The folks at Time/Life must have just loved that. Or he could have used US News & World Report. But no. He had to rhyme with "but the press let the story leak". Or maybe he found that line so he could rhyme it with Newsweek. Maybe Newsweek secretly funded the recording. Scandal! I guess there were enough hits through the years about Time Magazine, though. Alan Parsons Project, etc.

Prediction for next week's show: 1st Guess - 4/19/75 2nd Guess - 4/21/79 1975 was played as an 'A' show the first weekend of 2021 but not since, and 4/19/75 hasn't been played as an 'A' since 2015. 1979 is overdue for an 'A' show as well, but I'll guess it waits until the first weekend in May. Sneak preview guess for the last weekend in April is 4/24/76 -- has gotten just one 'A' spin back in 2010 (was a 'B' in 2017). It appears that next weekend's show is from April 19, 1975. "B" show could be from April 15, 1978.

Geez, enough 1978 already! Of course, that gives us hope that the show for the last weekend of April could likely be 4/28/1979, which was played only once, back in 2012, so it is very ripe for a repeat. (Also, this was the first four-hour weekly 1979 countdown offered to US affiliates. I remember that the album version "Lady" by Little River Band was edited into the broadcast).

Yes. 5/3/1975! Still there goes hope for this show anyway... 5/3/75 last aired in 2010, so it would be 'B' show possibility one of the first two weekends in May. And the 70's series has lots of 'B' shows now.

This reminds me of Paul's story about explaining to Mickey Mantle that he didn't use his name in "Mrs. Robinson" because "Joe DiMaggio" had more syllables.

And remember: You can't pair a 1971-1974 A show with a 1975 B show. I think 1975 can and should be a candidate for being a B at least with 1970-72 A's, as it was before. By totally ruling everything pre-1976 out as a B for anything other than maybe the four hour shows, that means an overload of 1976-79 countdowns are being offered if not played by most stations. And IIRC only a couple/few stations played the 1976 B instead of the 1974 A a couple of weeks ago, raising questions of whether B's are really needed for that far into the decade.

I guess there were enough hits through the years about Time Magazine, though. Alan Parsons Project, etc. A decade after "Julio", 'Time' got their mention in Billy Joel's "Pressure".
