Here are the optional extras for August 6, 1977… Hour #1: Nobody Does It Better – Carly Simon *three weeks away from its Top 40 debut Hour #2: "Paper Roses" – Marie Osmond ( briguy52748, how did you miss this one?) *from the “Book of Records” program feature Hour #3: Keep It Comin’ Love – KC & The Sunshine Band *one week away from its Top 40 debut So is "Paper Roses" an add to the show (rather than an original extra pulled out as an optional)? It apparently was an add: Casey told one of his "let's open up the AT40 Book of Records" stories noting that Marie was the youngest artist ever to hit #1 on the country charts as of 1977, and Premiere edited in the full song that wasn't played in the original show.

OK got it--so it's like that extra in the 5/24/75 show where they took a drop piece and converted it to the full song. I think that was a "what ever happened to" segment? Always curious about these since some of them were not at all a part of the original show (like some of the #1 song of 5/10 years ago ones), and a lot of times these segments aren't called out in the cue sheets.

In looking at the cue sheet for the original 8/15/70 show, there are 6 extra featured... somewhat understandable given how short some songs were in 1970. However, four of the six extras were featured in the second hour. It seems odd to pack four extras into one hour. I checked the cue sheets for the other four August '70 shows, and while none of them had four extras in an hour, one had three in the first hour while another one had three in the last hour. One show had an extra between #20 and #19, and then another extra between #19 and #18! I guess AT40 was finding its way through the first weeks of the show seeing where it would be best to play extras.

Unfortunately, the AT40 staff needed another 3 weeks after this show to 'discover' the idea of using album cuts as countdown extras, an infrequently used approach to fill time early on. A track from the week's #1 album ("Blood, Sweat & Tears 3") would've been a welcome addition.

Aug 15,1970 is the 'A' show because it's the 1st airing of Ken's mono2stereo conversion of this show. (Great work Ken!) By my count, there are still 7 or 8 more shows from 1970 that have not been converted yet. Aug 15, Aug 22, Sep 19, Oct 24, Nov 14, Nov 28, Top 80 of 1970. Any more left? I have the Aug.22 show, it was played 2016 in mono2stereo. Do you mean Aug.29? That one is missing by my records. Only played once 2014. I don't have Oct.3, missed it from 2014, was not sure if it was converted or not. I don't have Dec. 12 - only played once in 2013 - quite sure that was mono. I agree on Sep 19, Oct 24, Nov. 14, Nov. 28 not converted. I thought the Top 80 of 1970 was played mono2stereo, but have no record of when that happened. I don't have those. Perhaps Ken ran a special only on his station. Can anybody verify that?

I just checked the archives, page 1492, Ken Martin aired the top 80 of 1970 mono2stereo in Jan, 2018 on his station only.

The recently-broadcast August 15, 1970 sounded awesome! That mono-to-stereo was amazing. I listened specifically for the awesomely-engineered "The Sly, Slick And The Wicked" and I wasn't disappointed! All the other songs sounded great, too. Heard guitar and drum riffs in some songs that stood out more and it was great to hear! Not to mention Casey's early delivery style. Thoroughly entertaining to hear a 50 year-old broadcast on terrestrial radio. Looking forward to more such shows!

The only year end shows that haven't been A's in longer are 1971 (one week, played in 2008 but never since) and 1978 (played by itself in edited down form in 2007 and since then as a B in 2012 and 2018, the last time with the full four hours offered.)

Normally I wouldn’t get too excited about a show that originally aired before I was born, but Ken’s stereo version makes it all worth listening to.

Aug 29, Oct 3, Dec 12 were all in stereo when they were aired in 2013/2014.
