KLFM is going with March 14, 1973 on Friday at 10 pm eastern. ...and not only does KLFM play the Premiere extras, due to their light (local) commercial load, they also play three additional extras each week...sometimes of songs already in the countdown! So not only 'extra' extras, but you get to hear local ads for businesses in and around Bendigo, Victoria, Australia, and best of all you don't have to hear Purple Mattress ads!

Prediction for next week's show: 1st Guess - 4/15/78 2nd Guess - 4/17/71 There's a good possibility that 1971 and '78 are the shows for the last two weeks in April. If it's 1978, we should be set up for a glut of early 70's shows throughout the month of May. While 1978 would seem to make the most sense for next week, and if not then shortly after, you wonder if Premiere might be hesitant to play a countdown with "Night Fever" at #1 right now.

What would the hesitation be? Yeah, I don't think the title of a #1 song has much, if any, influence on the shows that Premiere selects. Besides, the shows are picked just prior to the start of a calendar year. Outside of the 7/25/1981 episode in 2013 (which 8/1 was played in its place instead) due to remastering issues, I don't think Premiere would switch shows like that for any reason outside of that (which isn't very likely now since there's only a few shows left that haven't yet aired in this now 13-year-old series). In other words, don't read too much into it. And, a 1978 show is due anyway...with the song in question in the middle of an 8-week run at the top.

Last year, WMGN Magic 98 played a few 1979 AT40: The 70's 1979 shows in non Christmas months starting with hour #2. I haven't quite followed their history, but it may have been because the "B" offering was a year that they recently played. There has also been shifting of playlists with radio overall, and the early 70s are falling out of favor for the later 70s, and some stations have shifted out of the 70s completely to the 80s. Even the iHeart classic AT40 channel only plays one 70s show to three 80s shows.

Agree--I can't imagine they would even notice the title of a song like that. I'd guess the odds are real slim that shows would be avoided because of a #1 song title. If that were the case, Premiere would have to wait all the way until the 5/20/78 show, and even then "Night Fever" wouldn't have dropped off the top 40 yet. There have been a few other shows that were last minute replacements over the years -- the 6/12/76 show was originally schedule to air for the first time in 2013, but was replaced with 6/5/76. 9/8/84 was also played oddly out of order in 2014 (was played the week of Sept. 20, 2014 in between 9/13/80 and 9/27/86) -- that one almost had to be a last minute replacement.

Aren't fever related 1970's songs like "Night Fever" and "Boogie Fever" being temporary banned from radio due to this COVID-19 pandemic?

Yeah, I remember the 9/8/1984 airing; I was a newer listener to the series back then, and thought it was a bit odd that they went backwards in calendar date. I was listening to the shows on KOOL 108 (KQQL-FM). It was also before I knew about this board; I discovered it in 2015, and read it for several months before joining in March 2016. I wonder if the show was scheduled that way, or if it was a replacement option.
