Was I Likes To Do It by Peoples Choice at #40 this past week the shortest (edited) song ever on AT40? It couldn't have been more than a minute the way they edited it.

Was I Likes To Do It by Peoples Choice at #40 this past week the shortest (edited) song ever on AT40? It couldn't have been more than a minute the way they edited it. On 8/27/77, "Boogie Nights" by Heatwave debuted at #40 and ran only about 50 seconds in the version I heard when Premiere played it last year. Not sure if that was Premiere's doing or if it was that short originally. Rob's book notes that Barry White's "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me" was cut down to only about 1:12 on 12/17/77 (its last week on.)

Before AT40 ditched the Hot 100 in Nov 1991, there were several rap songs that were edited to a minute or less. Rob's book talks about them some. One which was on the last AT40 using the Hot 100 was "Mind Playing Tricks" and they really cut it.

Rob's book notes that Barry White's "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me" was cut down to only about 1:12 on 12/17/77 (its last week on.) I'm repeating myself but Premiere is constantly editing the #40 song. It could be "You Light up My Life" and they would edit it. They have to edit at least one song an hour (well, they don't but they do...that's another post) and they always edit the #40 song thinking that people will tune in late and not know it. When they played the 8/1/70 show a few weeks back, I don't think they edited the #40 song but that was because they made an original extra an optional extra eliminating the need to edit a countdown song (theoretically). Editing songs on the original shows is inexcusable if they also played at least one extra in it. And that was the case for the 12/17/77 show where they played 3 extras. All Christmas songs but I would have just played a portion of those songs. Another argument for the 4 hour show of course.

I don't know what the total runtime of Joe Walsh's "Life's Been Good" was on the 8/26/78 show, but that was as big of a butcher job as I have heard. Guessing it was more than a minute though.

The edit of Mr. Vain by Culture Beat on the 1994 yearend show barely lasted a minute.

One which was on the last AT40 using the Hot 100 was "Mind Playing Tricks" and they really cut it. That was precisely my thought as soon as I read the thread's title. Not only were those hardcore rap song butchered beyond belief, but so were harder rock songs. Guns n' Roses' "You Could Be Mine" and Metallica's "Enter Sandman" were also Edward Scissorhands' victims.

That Dr. Hook song "Girls Can Get It" from late 1980 seemed pretty short to me, barely over 2 minutes. I remember hearing it on the 12/13/1980 show and it seemed pretty short. Was that an AT40 edit, or the actual single version, and was there ever a longer version available.
