As many of you know, this week's AT40 70's show is from August 17, 1974. This reperesents the chart week after the resignation of President Richard Millhouse Nixon. The actual date he signed off was August 13. In an odd coincidence, almost exactly 30 years to the day,on August 12, 2004, New Jersey Governor James McGreevey gave a rather odd (& jaw-dropping ) press conference in which he announced his resignation from office. (Abet taking affect 3 months later) In the process, he made a revelation that makes him a one-of-a-kind in American history. (I respectfully will not divulge what that is...you'll have to look it up.) What's so ironic is that he has gone on record stating Nixon was one of his political heroes and his own scandal was of Watergate proportions. Also, he was originally going to hold this press conference the following day, which was a Friday! Even more ironic was the record that was #1 on the Hot 100 when McGreevey made his press conference: "Confessions Part II" by Usher!

Not really political but on February 1, 2003 I got up and listened to American Country Countdown. #1 was Mark Wills "19 Something" which contained the line "Space Shuttle fell out of the sky" referring to Challenger. Unfortunately, when the show was over and I turned on CBS, there was Dan Rather telling me Columbia had done the same that morning.
