So he may do it a second time next week if he hosts and his song climbs that one notch to the top. Is he the only host to accomplish this feat? Never happened before Ryan hosted at least.

I don't think anyone has ever guest hosted AT40 twice with themselves at #1. Shawn, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry each did so once. In any case, I haven't heard anything about a guest host next week; guest hosts are usually announced in advance nowadays, unless Ryan suddenly gets sick or something. And judging from the Mediabase charts, it's unlikely that Mendes' "Treat You Better" will hit #1, as it couldn't dislodge the Chainsmokers' "Closer". 21 Pilots "Heathens" is now at #2 in MB behind "Closer".

Niall Horan will be guest hosting the first weekend of December.

Maybe the 1st irish host for AT40?

Finishing up the show, it is pretty weak, especially given how good the show has sounded this year.
Also, the iHeart station now displays title and artist info of the songs. Are the shows being distributed differently now to allow this, anyone know?

Thought the show was good from a song perspective. All the questions were by girls. Surely that is not representative of the listeners of the show. Or maybe Brett's views are representative of guys opinion of Niall. I've heard better myself.

Yeah, the young female demographic is the main target for the show, and CHR format. They probably make up 70% of the audience.
I just thought it was a sloppy show, with Niall having little involvement and it mainly being a show filled with sweepers between the songs, and even going in and out of breaks. Niall introed a few things, but it was obvious this was voicetracked quickly and perhaps before the chart was even ready, as many instances Niall gave a chart position or a song title - but not both.

^ this is why I hate guest hosted shows now. For their lack of involvement they could just have Ryan do that before he takes a week off. That's hard for me to say because I am one who feels current hit shows benefit when the host takes a week off every now and then, but if the guests aren't going to do anything of consequence then does it matter if they are there? No.

Absolutely correct. And that is why when the Ryan Tedder show was so good in July, I had hopes for future guest hosts. The only other decent one was when Jimmy Fallon did it years ago.

The problem is there is nothing on the show to bring in and entetain the demographic who goes "gaga" for Niall. Nor is there anything on the show to keep a chart or AT40 fan tuned in. So these guest hosted weeks are a throwaway show.

Are the shows being distributed differently now to allow this, anyone know? That *might* have something to do with the iHeartRadio Plus service they just started. You can go back and listen to a song immediately again if you sub to it and so that feature was probably needed in order to do this.

It would be great if they would invite Shadoe Stevens to be a guest host. Much better than these posers.

That would make no sense at all. Same way it wouldn't have ever made sense for Casey to come back.

Being the creator of the show that handed it off to Ryan, you're right, it wouldn't make sense for Casey to come back (if he were alive and healthy). I think having Shadoe back would be of great interest to the older demos. Also he is quite well and healthy, and could pull it off. It would also bring a sense of continuity to the show with it's history and be an appropriate way to recognize his contributions to American Top 40. Don't tell me you wouldn't listen.

Of course I would. But the "older demo" you refer to is not the demographic the show is targeting. It would be a cool show for us diehard fans. But a guy in his 60s guest hosting AT40 isn't what they are going for.
