Do those of you that record the weekly countdown and edited out the commercials also edit out the AT40 extras? I don't see what the point of these songs are, I am guessing to stretch the show to an even 3 or 4 hours, but I know you guys would know better. Just curious how many people keep these songs in or edit them out. Thanks!

Up until this past weekend's show, I'd been too lazy to bother editing the ones I'd recorded...for what it's worth, I only have 8 shows dating back to the Top 50 of 1985 (aired New Year's Day).
Now, I'm going back to edit the other ones I have. I don't plan on editing out the Premiere extras, because the way I see it, they still at least relate to the re-aired show. Any extra songs that aren't in some what connected to the show, though, will go bye-bye.
I will say that my recording of the 7/13/85 show now clocks in at an even 3:21:00. That consists of the show, the extras, and a couple brief Casey-voiced station promos ("You're listening to American Top 40: The 80s on...") that I left in there. Take everything out but the show, and it probably still wouldn't be under 3 hours, but it'd only be a few minutes over.

I usually don't delete the extras on my edited shows, because to me they typically do add to the "flavor" of the show, and often the extras are good songs. The only time I haven't kept an extra so far is the song "Where Are You Now" by Synch on the April 5, 1986 show. That song went nowhere in 1986, but was a hit in 1989 upon re-release. To me it is totally an '89 song and felt pretty out of place on a 1986 AT40 show, so I left it out.
CRZ, if you edit out the commercials and keep the extras, the show should clock in around 3h 20m (give or take a minute or two) every time. It's a good way to tell if you missed a cut if the show doesn't end up around that length.
