I have heard that the show won’t debut until they can get on in a big market, so until then, it’s probably on hold. I fear it will be on hold for a very long time, if it even makes it to the air. The Big Market stations is owned by CC, CBS, etc. Those stations will only play countdown shows from their own company. For instance, CC stations will only air shows from the Premiere Radio Networks.

Maybe Mike has to think alternative distribution. Perhaps something like Spotify, Pandora, Youtube, or something else online. I am still hoping that Billboard will resurrect something like their old countdown show. Even though people here dismiss the Billboard Chart nowadays, I would listen to it if they had a countdown. Well I also listen to WT40, so you know I am not that particular.

There is a Top 20 countdown aired by Voice of America weekly and it is based on Billboard. Every week, by Friday or so, you can download for free the new chart on mp3, it´s low quality but it´s not bad at all. All you need is to save this permanent link and check it every week on Friday or Saturday to get the new show. Now it´s the show for the week ending december 10, 2011 , show is 1 hour long and the permanent link is the same, changing every week the show: www.voanews.com/mp3/voa/english/tp20/tp200105a.mp3

According to his sister, Mike is moving to Singapore for some big job. That probably means no Kasem Kountdown unless he plans to do it from there.

Yes, that is what I read on his Facebook page and I though it was related to the show, but it seems it is related to another project.
Who knows...

I'm the one that got this started so I guess it's only fitting that I put it to bed. Just as you suspected, the project never got off the ground...the web site has now expired. I know we wanted this to be a successful venture, but it will likely never happen.

Had Mike succeeded Casey on AT10/AT20 perhaps the name would carry some weight. In this era though without that it wasn't happening. Looking back, they should have come up with a long range (meaning year or longer) for Casey's retirement. Then had Mike sit in for several weeks in a row on several occasions during that time to condition listeners to him, then a transition could have occurred. Of course this is all subjected to whether the show was making enough money any longer to justify going through all of this because while Mike would have been probably the right guy for the job, it's kind of like Scott Pelley taking over the CBS Evening News, he wasn't going to invoke massive appeal to tune in.

While I don't think AT20 was doing all that well towards the end, AT10 was still a very successful show and really the only AC countdown show. We all saw AT40 Hot AC stepping on the toes of AT20 those last few years, but I really wish some sort of 'American Top' show could have remained for the AC format, be it hosted by Casey, Mike, or someone else.

But was AT10 really doing well? Or was it being forced on stations because they were owned largely by CC and there wasn't much else in that format they could take? I ask this because a station near and dear to my heart in your current and my former place of residence Magic 107.7 didn't even air the final edition of AT10, the following week started airing 3 hours of the AT40 the 80s show, and then were able to drop everything and go all "local" when they got the chance. The station also never advertised the show as airing and the only reason I found it was on there is I was listening to a recorded online stream one day. The station that used to air it in Miami dropped it. It just seemed like an afterthought that no one cared much about. Though I must say the time for AT10 in Orlando was very nice.

Aw, darn. And I was hoping for
"Kasem's Coast to Coast"
Thanks for closing out the thread, though.
