Here is the second of our July 4th specials: Top 50 Songs Written or Performed By The Bee Gees: www.megaupload.com/?d=LYRVSSVJ Cue Sheet: www.megaupload.com/?d=38G4LT7A They're commercial free and even have Bonus Tracks. A few are quite interesting and rare. There aren't as many as on the Elton John show, but they're worth it! Like our 60's countdowns, they are chock full of amazing stories! My favorite is about Tragedy, I'll admit it, I never knew it until it was researched! ENJOY! The Elton John top 50 is coming soon!

Love your special countdown! The Bee Gees is one of my all time favorite acts in pop music. I noticed a skip on "An Everlasting Love" by Andy Gibb in my copy and was wondering if it was that way in the original copy as well.

Hmmm, not sure. I just listened to that segment too and didn't notice it. Possibly an edit I did that I didn't notice wasn't perfect? What point in the song?

PS, it was shortened for time. One of a few that I had to shorten for the length I am allowed.

Heard the Bee Gees countdown special....BRILLANT!!! This has better essence than the Beatles countdown Casey did for AT40 back in 1981. This is the type of special that would be of interest to all types of music listeners. It showed what the Gibb brothers have accomplished AND how the contributions have influenced popular music even today.
With that said, I noticed TWO glaring omissions from the list: Michael Bolton's cover of "To Love Somebody" (a song that peaked at #11 in 1992), and "Ghetto Supastar" by Pras Michel, Mya, & ODB (a song that peaked at #15 in 1998 which the Gibb Brothers received a writing credit for). I noticed when the Bee Gees made the list of VH-1's list of 100 Greatest Artists, it was mostly hip hop artists that were giving them praise. I felt their representation should've been on this show too.

I honestly left out Ghetto Supastar because all it really was, was an interpolation of Islands in the Stream. Not much more than a glorified sample. I actually like the song though. We considered Michael Boltons version but left it off because it was not much different than the original. At least the arrangement of Emotion was different when Destiny's Child did it. My producer and I argued over it and ultimately left it out to include more different songs. We meant to mention it or create a medley of the two but forgot.
Thanks for listening! New specials coming soon!

Haven't listened to the entire countdown yet, but I sure like what I've heard so far.
I did spot one mistake though. For the trivia on "Nights on Broadway", you mentioned that the song peaked at #3. I think you were looking at the trivia notes for the preceding song.
'Lonely Days' peaked at #3, 'Nights on Broadway' peaked at #7.

Ah crap and a half! Probably was the case.
Did anyone who listened notice the math mistake at the end of hour 3? I was reviewing my breaks today and spotted it. and it is DRIVING ME CRAZY!

Mostly a lurker on this board, but wanted to say that I am enjoying this compilation of songs - excellent. I had a question about the version of "This Woman" by Kenny Rogers played...something sounds off on the vocals. Is it a re-recording? The lead vocals don't sound as much like "Kenny Rogers" (his typical singing style) as I remembered and I had to listen again to the original to confirm that they sound different.

Its a possibility with Kenny. He did alot of re-recording for hits collections. I thought the hits collection I have with the song on it was the original version. I haven't heard the song otherwise, so I didn't compare anything.
I wish artists wouldn't do that, its quite misleading.
Glad you enjoyed the show! 2 (or 3 ;-D) new ones coming soon!

Yes, I used to listen to a lot of AC, along with Top 40, in 1984 (where "This Woman" was a #2 hit), and so spotted the difference right away. The Bee Gees (or at least Barry's?) vocals are also much more prominent in the background -- there's a video on YouTube if anyone is interested in checking it out. "Eyes That See In The Dark" is also an excellent song with a similar sound, which was also a much bigger AC hit.
A couple of other thoughts on the countdown: --"He's A Liar" is really the only stinker, in my opinion...I don't know what happened to the Bee Gees in the early 80s...did all the good material go to other artists? Terrible song. --I had not realized how relatively low the Bee Gees 60s songs charted...I had always assumed classics like "To Love Somebody" and "Words" peaked in the Top 10. --"Hold On To My Love" has to be one of the most forgotten Top 10 singles of the 80s. I had heard it was one of the only ones not available on CD, but not sure if this is still true.

I may just edit in the porper version around my vocal. Thats gonna drive me crazy now.
He's A Liar. It sounds like an immature kid wrote it in high school IMHO. Believe me, I thought about putting The Tavares with More Than A Woman at #50 (It was #51) But I couldn't justify it.
60's hits. I love songs like My World, To Love Somebody and Lonely Days. I was surprised too how low they ranked. Obviously the 75-79 stuff was immensley popular, but still I was surprised.
My copy is a 45 that I had to transfer. Hear the pops and crackles in it? I don't mind that, its the way music should be heard!

I am glad you didn't change the #50 song because it gave the beginning of the countdown an odd twist. The first 2 songs He's a Liar and Edge of the Universe are the singles that bookended the Bee Gees 6 straight #1s. Obviously the demise of disco is the reason the streak came to an end. But they could have done another ballad and maybe reached the top again in 1981.

That is true, I didn't think of it that way.
I doubt they could have done ANYTHING to get back at #1 after 1979. Except of course writing for others and having them sing it. See, people loved the Bee Gees, they just didn't know it! LOL. Think about it, how different is the ballads like Woman In Love, Guilty, Islands In The Stream etc... from actual songs they did themselves?
